John Murray: "Here's Vestergaard, shielding it from Diangana, the smaller man. Everyone on the field is a smaller man than Vestergaard."

    Steve Claridge: "Even you, John?"

John Murray: "Even me. Although I'm not on the field."

    Great feet, Michail Antonio.

The former Southampton loanee skips past two Saints defender and drives a low cross into the area, but it's booted clear.

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Stuart Armstrong is popping up all over the field.

The midfielder finds space on the right this time, but his deep cross is headed away with Matt Targett lurking at the back post.

West Ham sense a chance to break, but Grady Diangana can't reach Felipe Anderson's chipped delivery.

  5. 'I expected more from Southampton'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2018

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I'm not disappointed but I expected a little more from Southampton and not quite as much from West Ham. It's been a really even game. It hasn't been an exhilarating game, but it's certainly been worth watching.

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

You feel there's definitely goals in this.

Pretty open so far, as Southampton looks to break West Ham's offside trap again with a little flick around the corner that's well mopped up by Declan Rice.

  7. 'It's a horrible finish'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2018

Lucas Perez never really convinced, did he? There's no striding on to it. He's let the ball come to him. He's not really attacked the ball. It's a horrible, slapping shot. It's the best chance so far, on his weaker foot, and it's a horrible finish.

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Massive chance for West Ham! Lucas Perez cannot believe he's missed...

Felipe Anderson slides Aaron Cresswell in down the left of Southampton's box and he cuts the ball back into the path of Perez.

The Hammers forward is unmarked around the penalty spot, but drags a scuffed left-footed strike well wide.

Best chance of the match so far.

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Stuart Armstrong was desperately trying to find a sight of goal on his right foot there, but the West Ham defence stood their ground and the midfielder's effort curled comfortably wide.

Good football from the hosts to work the chance.

Oh, hello... little bit of showboating from Felipe Anderson as he combines with Aaron Cresswell down the left, executing a delightful little back heel to release the West Ham wing-back.

The Hammers work it right, before Robert Snodgrass cuts in off the flank and fires a bouncing, left-footed effort into the arms of Alex McCarthy from distance.

I don't think either manager will be too disappointed with the way their sides have started, although we haven't had too much goalmouth action.

Interestingly, Grady Diangana has "Diang" on his shirt... which threw me a moment ago as I desperately trawled the team-sheet looking for a "Diang".

Meaty. Nothing left behind in that tackle from Issa Diop on Stuart Armstrong, but the Scot bounces back to his feet quickly - he's looked lively down Saints' left.

West Ham can break, though, with Grady Diangana trying to wriggle down the line before running it out of play.

  14. 'Rice has a great future'published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2018

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Declan Rice does really well there as Nathan Redmond drops his shoulder and allows the ball to come across. He does what every good midfielder should do, he sees the danger and gets the foot in to stop Redmond getting that shot away. Fantastic reading of the game. I think Rice is going to be a fantastic player. He has a really good future in the game.

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Great work from Stuart Armstrong to dispossess Michail Antonio on the left of the penalty box, before drifting into the area and sliding a pass back to Nathan Redmond.

The Saints forward attempts to let it run across his body, but West Ham regroup and clear.

  16. 'Southampton's shape takes work'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2018

I can understand why Ralph Hasenhuttl would want to work on this Southampton shape because this 3-5-2 takes work. You can get exposed. Everything depends on the position of your wing-backs. But they look reasonably comfortable in it at the moment.

Danny Ings is looking dangerous, but he can't quite gather Yan Valery's threaded ball on the edge of the West Ham area.

Decent touch and he would have been in on goal.

Ziggy Tzardust: West Ham have two youth players in the starting 11 and two more on the bench. The U23s have their own games to play so you can't name too many on the bench if you don't expect them to play.

Tilbo: All those having a go about West ham only naming 6 subs: Zabaleta was taken ill from being in the starting 11, it was too late then to name another sub.

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

The ball skips on to Felipe Anderson at the back post, but it's just pinched away from the tricky winger as he tries to work space for a shot on goal.

Robert Snodgrass goes wide and wins another corner for the Hammers, but this one is well dealt with by the hosts.

Jan Vestergaard wouldn't look out of place as Bond villain or fighting The Mountain in Game of Thrones... he hauls a blue shirt to the ground on halfway and it allows West Ham to finally get hold of the ball for a few moments.

And Michail Antonio does well to win a corner.
