    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is a cross between David Luiz and Marouane Fellaini.

He has been OK you know, showing some nice touches. He's only 19 and looks to be a good signing for the Gunners.

  2. CLOSE!published at 50 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

Sergio Aguero would have broken the net if this strike went in.

The Argentine is quickest to react to a loose ball, 25 yards out, but his rocket of a shot towards the top corner deflects just wide.

Petr Cech was well beaten, he didn't bother going for it.

Autobodybiography: Stop moaning. Took Klopp 3 seasons to get his players pressing/attacking like they do. And he had to buy the right players for the system, spending millions in the process. People seem to forget it’s basically only Henderson and Milner left from what he inherited.

URperfect: New era new season with new energised fans will take us ahead not with shortsighted ones. Just make a lot of noise in the stadium n show the support gooners

Jordan Brooks: Am I crazy for thinking Arsenal would have done better appointing someone like a David Moyes to bring back abit of grit and backbone. Emery might just be a poor man's Wenger and whatever you think of Moyesy, he definitely would not.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan leads an Arsenal break, he has acres of field to run in to but what a poor ball out to Mesut Ozil and the opportunity is lost.

Arsenal fans will want to see the steel, desire and resolve that they lacked in Wenger's dwindling years. If they can show some fight in this second half, who knows? They are not out of this game yet.

Imran Randaree: As an Arsenal fan I'm not going to say I'm happy or impressed with what I've seen but I don't what people expected when we're starting against City who are the best team in the country and we've undergone huge changes over the summer

Dan Bell: I wonder who the Arsenal fans will blame this season when they finish 6th now they’ve hounded out Wenger

Dave Payn: Looking at the Arsenal side it's still mostly Wenger's, much of it deadwood. I said last season that it may get worse before it gets better, whoever came in for Wenger. This game against City won't prove that but others might before long.

Colin Bundred: I love all the chances these goalkeepers are creating. Unfortunately they're all in the wrong end of the pitch.

Felix, Oxford: Very ominous for the rest of the league again this season. City looking so dangerous even without their most creative player De Bruyne.

Trev H: People - stop moaning about moaning Arsenal fans. EVERY club has their fickle short-sighted brigade. All proper Gooners realise you don't undo years of naive tactical coaching in one pre-season. Emery needs months before we can expect to see his ideas come through. Not to mention a match fit Torrieira in front of the back 4.

A new era for Arsenal but they've been outclassed by Manchester City. It was always going to be the worst possible start for Emery’s team to have to face and they have looked very nervous. They should be much further behind but the positive news for them is that they're not and they can go again after half time.

And there goes the half-time whistle.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has a big team-talk to give.

City goalkeeper Ederson has had two saves to make so far, but they have both been comfortable to deal with.

  15. 'Wasteful'published at 16:48 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

City have been totally dominant and should be out of sight. They have been wasteful to be honest. Emery should be thankful that Arsenal are still in the game. Get them in at half time, regroup and take their chance in the second half.

  16. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

First sniff of goal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just before half-time, but the ex-Dortmund striker's shot from 25 yards troubles only the ballboy, who has to run and retrieve it for Ederson's goal-kick.

Barry Goldstein: Arsenal's attempts at playing out from the back are hilarious.

Erlingur Einarsson: You... you were really expecting a much-changed Arsenal team, in their first competitive match under their first new boss in 22 years to walk over one of the greatest Premier League squads ever assembled? Arsenal Twitter is the worst.

Jack: City are getting Arsenal just at the right time...after 2008...

Mahrez does really well there. He drives inside and bends it agonisingly just outside that far post. Man City could and maybe should have been out of sight in this first half.

Arsenal fans have to be patient though. It's going to take time.

  19. CLOSE!published at 41 mins

This is what Riyad Mahrez can bring.

A clever stepover, leaving Stephan Lichtsteiner for dead, before arrowing a shot across goal and inches wide of goal.

Mahrez is such a classy player.
