Chelsea defender Magdalena Eriksson finds herself picking up a yellow card for a badly-timed challenge on Georgia Stanway.

Free-kick is floated in by Stanway but Steph Houghton can't direct her header on the run towards goal.

Likewise, Reading have picked up where they left off. Lauren Bruton shoots with her left before meeting the rebound with her right, volleying wide as Kelly Chambers' side dominate again.

Birmingham start the second half as they did the first, Marisa Ewers inches from the Blues' second. Lucy Staniforth's corner causes mayhem in the box and the Germany midfielder managed to inch a shot goalward before Everton clear their lines.

Two minutes earlier, Ellen White watched her shot blocked by Gabby George, before Charlie Wellings' effort dipped straight into the outstretched palms of Everton keeper Kirstie Levell.

In case you need reminding, Nadia Nadim's recently handed in a transfer request at Man City before the season started.

She's staying at the club for the time being despite that and the Denmark international could well play a key role in this second half.

"Plenty to talk about there even if we haven't seen any goals.

Chelsea have most definitely grown into the game in the closing stages of the first half, but City have also shown hints of a threat.

"It's clear these two are well-organised and don't want to give anything away even as early as this opening game."

Reading's Natasha Harding sees her effort blocked from outside the box, and while Sophie Howard is eager to introduce herself to the rebound, the best she can do is volley wide.

Then Fara Williams limbers up from the same distance - with the same result, the sot curling wide of the post.

It took Mark Skinner's side just 45 seconds to open the scoring and they've been pretty dominant since, spurning two chances to extend their lead just before the break.

First 45 minutes done and dusted at Kingsmeadow.

Chelsea had a spell of a bit more territory towards the end there and again Karen Bardsley had her palms warmed by a Ramona Bachmann shot.

Nothing between these two sides at the break but there have been chances.

Two back-to-back chances for Birmingham as they storm the visitors' box.

Charlie Wellings' free-kick finds Hayley Ladd at the back post, but she cannot hit the target and misses the chance to double the hosts' lead.

Immediately after, Ellen White, meets the resulting Lucy Staniforth corner but heads inches wide.

Kayleigh Green has the first clear-cut chance for Hope Powell's Brighton and races through the Bristol City defence, but goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley dives to her left to palm the danger away.

Chelsea again surging forward looking for the opener and So-Yun Ji eventually finds Karne Carney on the left edge of the penalty area.

Carney tries her luck with a curler, but it was always going to go over Karen Bardsley's crossbar.
