Plenty of opinions on Manchester United across Twitter this morning, who'd have thought it?

James: First game: Rashford, Fred, Pereira , Shaw. All have pace, youth and energy. Since then Fellaini, Lukaku, Matic have come back, everything has slowed down. Mourinho needs to give youth a chance again.

Cookie: Now I don’t look forward to my team, Manchester United, playing. It’s not because of the manager's tactics but rather the attitude of the players that I can’t stand.

Glenn Murray scored his fifth goal of the season to give Brighton victory over West Ham in an entertaining Premier League match at the Amex.

Murray stroked home Beram Kayal's excellent cross from the left on 25 minutes for the only goal of the game.

The Hammers responded positively, with Marko Arnautovic threatening to equalise before half-time.

The visitors continued to press in the second half, but Brighton held on to claim all three points.

All we hear about is it's the managers fault. The players have not been good enough. Mourinho has tried different players, formations & combo but lack of effort in centre mid, from Lukaku & lack of quality at the back isn't going to be solved by Zidane's magic wand!

BBC Sport visits Old Trafford to ask whether manager Jose Mourinho has a long-term future at Manchester United, or if recent poor results could lead to his tenure coming to an end.

  9. 'He's picking fights with everyone'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Man Utd v Newcastle (17:30 BST)

    Steve Sidwell
Brighton coach on BBC Radio 5 live

The whole thing was a bit of a farce [Mourinho's press conference at 8am on Friday]. It’s as though it’s Jose’s last bit of power to say ‘you’ll come in when I say you come in’.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he hadn’t turned up to the press conference. At Chelsea [first time round] he had everyone in the palm of his hand – players, media, everyone in football. He didn’t pick fights and chose his words carefully.

Now he’s picking little fights with everyone. It’s always little niggly comments. It’s so unlike Jose. I think the thing he’s struggling with is he looks isolated, a lonely figure. He’ll puff his chest out and get on with it, but Jose at the minute has an eye on too much stuff.

  10. 'Jose doesn't like entertainers'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Man Utd v Newcastle (17:30 BST)

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

If you look at Mourinho's history he has never liked entertainers. Risky footballers.

What happened to Damien Duff? Joe Cole? He knocked it out of them. Shaun Wright-Phillips disappeared. Kevin de Bruyne, he couldn't fit him in the team. Mo Salah!

He doesn't like players who take risks. When they play they don't look the same.

Man Utd v Newcastle (17:30 BST)

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 live

If Mourinho doesn't start winning games, he'll get the hoof, and he will deserve it. You can play the way that Jose plays, in comparison to the way Liverpool and City play, but you'd better win all the time.

Becuase the fans and the players will get sick of it otherwise.

You just can't see Manchester United turning this around. The five-at-the-back formation last week just didn't work for them, they are all playing as individuals.

The team have a fear of playing at Old Trafford, they have to get three points today.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho retains the support of the club's board to turn the present situation around.

United host Newcastle at Old Trafford at 17:30 BST on Saturday, looking to avoid going five games without a win for only the second time since 1998.

The club's recent form has led to intense speculation about the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager's future.

However, it is understood there is no immediate threat to his position.

England's friendly against Brazil on Saturday is an opportunity for the Lionesses to show what they are capable of, says midfielder Fara Williams.

England's most-capped player was recalled to the squad after she was forced to withdraw from the last round of fixtures because of injury.

"We have to beat these teams," the Reading midfielder, 34, told BBC Sport.

"We have to treat it like these are the quarter-finals or the semi-finals of the World Cup."
