  3. Celtic must be clinical - Rodgerspublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 4 October 2018

    Salzburg v Celtic (17:55)

Salzburg started well with a 3-2 win at RB Leipzig but Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has been given grounds for optimism by some suspect defending.

"They score goals but we also know they concede goals as well so there's going to be opportunities in the game and we need to be clinical," he said at yesterday's media conference.

"When you watch the game against Leipzig there were a couple of mistakes where they go 2-0 up but then it all changes very quickly in the second half. You always have to find a team's weak points and how you can exploit those.

"But we respect every opponent. They have real quality in their team and the players have confidence. They win a lot of games and score goals so we know defensively that we'll have to be really organised and also really aggressive in the right moments.

"We know we can score goals also. We have good speed in the team, good players and we can also keep the ball well. We know we have to defend well, be concentrated, match the intensity and work rate. When we have possession we need to be dangerous."

  4. Gerrard wants Rangers 'on front foot'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 4 October 2018

    Rangers v Rapid Vienna (20:00)

Rangers slipped to their second defeat under Steven Gerrard on Sunday, a tame 1-0 loss at Livingston which leaves them eight points behind Premiership pace-setters Hearts, who visit Ibrox on Sunday.

Gerrard is demanding a positive response this evening, saying: "We're at our best when we're positive and when we believe in ourselves.

"You saw at the weekend, we didn't show enough quality of belief in the final third and we couldn't score, we didn't look like scoring.

"I'm not going to accept my team sitting back just waiting for the game. We have to be on it from the first whistle to the last.

"I've mentioned many times how I want it to look and what I expect of them. Now the players have got to go deliver on that. The players have spoken about it too and given us feedback that they feel better when they're on the front foot."

  8. Brown blow for Celticpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 4 October 2018

    Salzburg v Celtic (17:55)

Celtic captain Scott Brown misses out with a tight hamstring, so Youssouf Mulumbu steps into central midfield.

Odsonne Edouard is fit after shaking off a dead leg, so that's the only change from Saturday's 1-0 win over Aberdeen. Kieran Tierney takes on the skipper's armband.

Defender Jozo Simunovic, who hasn't featured since August, is among the substitutes.

Tom Rogic, Kristoffer Ajer, Filip Benkovic are also absent through injury.

Celtic XI: Gordon, Lustig, Hendry, Boyata, Tierney, Mulumbu, Ntcham McGregor, Forrest, Edouard, Griffiths.

Both Glasgow sides did well on matchday one in this competition, with Rangers surviving a rocky start to earn a 2-2 draw away to Villarreal and Celtic finally breaking down a stubborn Rosenborg for a 1-0 victory a fortnight ago.
