A comfortable lead for the home side, with Ryan Kent scoring early as the Hearts defence were appealing for an offside, then Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield extended Rangers' lead.

Hearts are unbeaten so far this season, but the league leaders have been swept aside so far.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:49 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    St Johnstone 0-1 Celtic

Another home player loses his footing and it's almost a second goal for Celtic. This time it's a slip from David Wotherspoon and the ball is quickly fed to Leigh Griffiths, who fires in a curler from 18 yards, with Zander Clark at full-stretch to push it away.

    James Forrest

A slip from Scott Tanser allows James Forrest to break up the park from halfway. He sets up Odsonne Edouard for a shot that Zander Clark does well to stop but the loose ball breaks to Forrest and the winger keeps a cool head to slam in the opener.

Now Celtic threaten for the first time as a powerful angled strike from James Forrest leaves Zander Clark winded at his near post. The ball pings around the penalty area before it's knocked behind for a corner.

From the set-piece, Filip Benkovic gets in a header but Clark is fortunate that it's right at him as he leaves his line in unconvincing fashion.

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

  8. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

An awkward clearance from Craig Gordon thumps against the chest of chasing striker David McMillan but the Saints man didn't know too much about it and the ball spins out of play, much to the relief of the Celtic goalie.

Positive from Danny Swanson as he jinks past a couple of opponents and wins Saints an early corner but the delivery is dreadful and suddenly the home side are scampering back to defend their own half.

  12. Celtic still the best team - Wrightpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    St Johnstone v Celtic (15:30)

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright tells BBC Scotland: "The league is better. I don't think Celtic have gone backwards in any way, I just think the teams around them have got better. There are three or four teams that are doing well and putting pressure on them.

"Overall I feel they've got the best squad. They still can hit the height they've hit in previous seasons. Look at their bench today, it's frightening the squad they have.

"It's been a difficult time [for St Johnstone]. You have to play all the teams anyway, but to have them altogether has been a difficult period. We've had positives. Key for us is ball retention."

Brendan Rodgers still has a job to do at Celtic. I'd be very surprised if he was interested in Aston Villa

    St Johnstone v Celtic (15:30)

Some interesting news breaking in England, where our BBC Sport colleagues are reporting that Brendan Rodgers is on Aston Villa's shortlist as they search for a new manager.

No approach has been made by the English Championship club but the Celtic boss is thought to be on a list along with former Manchester United assistant manager Rui Faria and Thierry Henry, who recently left his position on Belgium's coaching staff.

  15. Celtic need to find balance for Griffiths & Edouard - Rodgerspublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    St Johnstone v Celtic (15:30)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "Us having played on Thursday, Tommy Wright might want to press the game more, but we'll see.

"What the team have shown over the last few years, no matter the result we always look forward to the next game. We've got to quickly regroup.

"Edouard and Griffiths are two different players. It's not the same synchronized movements as when Moussa (Dembele) was here. We have other options but they've scored goals those two guys and it's about trying to fit them into the balance of the team.

"Scott Brown will be back after the international break. These two games were just too quick for him.

"It's just about reinforcing the identify of our team. It's still very early in the season. We're not running away with the league by any means but I expect and anticipate our performance level to improve as the season goes on."

    St Johnstone v Celtic (15:30)

Celtic have made a stuttering start to the season as the champions chase an eighth successive title.

Two domestic defeats make it the club's worst opening in 20 years.

There was further disappointment for Brendan Rodgers' side on Thursday when they were overpowered by Salzburg after taking an early lead in Austria on Europa League duty.

The goals have dried up, with Celtic not managing more than one in their past seven outings in all competitions.

    St Johnstone v Celtic (15:30)

Tommy Wright will forever be a St Johnstone legend after winning the Scottish Cup back in 2014.

Today, the big manager reaches another milestone at the Perth club as he overtakes Willie Ormond’s total of 197 top flight games in charge.

So, will league game number 198 deliver a 79th win for the Northern Irishman?

Since he took over at McDiarmid Park in the summer of 2013, he has managed just one win in 20 meetings with Celtic.
