    FT: Israel 2-1 Scotland

The inquest on this will run and run but that's enough from me... Remember you can watch highlights on Sportscene soon (BBC Two Scotland 23:15), if you want to relive it or if you simply don't believe it was the abject display we've all been saying it was.

Scotland don't have long to regroup, with a trip to Albania next month, quickly followed by Israel's visit to Hampden.

Thanks for your company and good night.

  2. 'A tough press conference' for McLeishpublished at 22:37 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    FT: Israel 2-1

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

It was a poor, poor performances in both halves. You can't ignore the fact that the Scotland goal was peppered.

That was a tough press conference for Alex (McLeish) there. It really dragged on, with same questions being asked over and over. He could have helped himself by saying 'it was a poor performance, unacceptable'.

  3. A game of two halves?published at 22:34 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    FT: Israel 2-1 Scotland

Scotland manager Alex McLeish tells reporters: "It was a game of two halves really. We started really well and had good movement forward.

"We spoke at half time about starting fast but unfortunately we lose a soft goal and then we lost John Souttar (to a red card) as well - even more so Charlie Mulgrew at half-time, who was feeling really bad with a muscle strain.

"The shape worked to a degree, we were very comfortable in the first half. If I was playing four at the back, you (the media) would be looking for another system. I know how it works.

"Losing two central defenders makes it hard. It's never easy playing with 10 and Israel had one or two players in good form and it was roasting out there, really warm.

"We had a good win against Albania and we need to pick it up again. We'll get some stick for this and we need to bounce back.

"Did we ever say we're at a level who should be qualifying for major tournaments? We're still looking for consistency, we're trying to build to that."

    On the Souttar dismissal...

"I thought it was soft. The referee is not up with play, he's 60 yards away. We were ready to take him off just then, so it was really ill-timing. He was devastated getting sent off."

    Billy Dodds
    Former Scotland striker on Sportsound

We could sit here for two or three hours and analyse this game. Everything went wrong.

At least it should be a match, but there were so many things that went wrong it was incredible.

I've played a 3-5-2 before and it is fine if you have the right personnel, but I don't think we do. We had too many players out of position.

Raymond: You hire a dinosaur gaffer who picks his mates and plays a woeful outdated tactical style. Scotland get what we deserve the SFA aren’t fit for purpose.

Davy Young: McGregor saved us from a tanking, woeful display from the rest, Robertson was even dragged down to all their level.

cath. Could have been a hell of so alot more if it hadn't been for McGregor.

John I: At the end of the day Im still going to be a Scotland fan tomorrow so there you go...

I'm quite stunned. I didn't think they had a performance as bad as that in them.

  10. Israel win 'well deserved'published at 22:09 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    FT: Israel 2-1 Scotland

Israel manager Andi Herzog is a happy man, saying: "We had a lot of chances and the win was well-deserved.

"It was maybe not the best game for Scotland but we had a really good day. We were looking for the finishing, that was what was missing in my first two games.

"If we want to qualify, we have to repeat that against Albania on Sunday."

  11. Tartan Army furious with meek displaypublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    FT: Israel 2-1 Scotland

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland in Haifa

I haven’t heard a Scotland team being booed off the park quite so vehemently in a long time, maybe ever.

The players were applauding the support and gesturing in apology for the performance. But they were being given short shrift by the Tartan Army, who are used to disappointment, but what they witnessed this evening was beyond the pale.

  12. Where do Scotland go from here?published at 22:01 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    FT: Israel 2-1 Scotland

It looks like back to the drawing board for Alex McLeish. The players deserved a second chance after a good display against Albania but no one did enough to keep their shirt this evening, apart from goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

That was Israel's first win since October 2017 and their first home win in two years - both of those successes coming against Liechtenstein. Just take a moment to let that sink in...

    Israel 2-1 Scotland

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

They had 23 attempts at goal and that shouldn't happen, but it did because we didn't perform in any department. The strikers didn't threaten, the midfield was simply dreadful, the wing-backs couldn't have played any worse... Allan McGregor is the only one who got pass marks.

  14. 'It was public park stuff'published at 21:51 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    FT: Israel 2-1 Scotland

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

It's the most one-sided 2-1 I've ever seen. Another post-mortem is in the offing. That was inept, public park stuff, and that's me being kind. You've got to look at the management. They sent that team out and they hadn't a clue what they were doing.

  16. 'We did not look in control'published at 21:45 British Summer Time 11 October 2018

    Israel 2-1 Scotland

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

The statistics tell their own story. Scotland were never really in the game. I never thought we'd get hammered the way we did. At no stage, did we look in control. The shape didn't look right.

Tom: Scotland are fast becoming a joke. How can the SFA sleep easy after watching this? It's years of their policy failure!

Robbie: McLeish was never the answer and we are going to pay for that with at least 2 wasted years.

I thought we were going to nick a draw from nowhere. That was a good opportunity for McGregor to steal something that we really didn't deserve.
