Leipzig are a young team, but their second string is pretty damn good. If Celtic get a draw, it will be an outstanding performance given the players they're missing. My fear is that they can be on the end of a bad beating

RB Leipzig winger Bruma is familiar to Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon, having swept a fantastic goal past him for Portugal at Hampden recently.

It was the 24-year-old's first international goal as Scotland fell to a 3-1 friendly defeat.

    RB Leipzig v Celtic (17:55)

Celtic were overwhelmed in the second half of their loss to Salzburg last time out in this tournament but manager Brendan Rodgers is urging his players to remain positive.

"Naturally, over the couple of games it's important to get results," said Rodgers at his media conference.

"After the last time in Salzburg, Okay we lost the game, but I want to see a better performance. It's key coming into these games that we think about performing well.

"When we play to that quality and players play with confidence then we have a much greater chance of getting a result. It's about going and performing and taking that confidence of going to play and not being frightened to make mistakes.

"We're playing against one of the top teams in Germany but we still have to show our way of playing and when we do that we know we can cause problems. That's what we're looking to do, perform well and then look at getting a result from that."

I see it being a long night for Celtic. With that team, do you see them winning? No. Do you see them getting a draw? Maybe. Leipzig's changes maybe give Celtic a chance

Speaking to some of the thousands of Celtic fans who have arrived in Leipzig for this match I have been struck by a recurring opinion. For most of them there is no doubt - the League Cup semi-final match on Sunday is a bigger match than this, or at least more important.

The home side have come a long way in a short time, having been formed just nine years ago.

With the financial muscle of a well known energy drink behind them, RB Leipzig rocketed from the fifth tier to the Bundesliga and European competition in no time.

It's fair to say they are none too popular with fans of other teams, with "fake club" and "just a product" among the printable insults regularly thrown their way. However, their success has been embraced closer to home, with an average attendance of over 40,000.

At the moment, they sit fifth in the league after eight matches, five points behind pace-setters Borussia Dortmund.

Last season, they reached the last eight in this competition, losing out to runners-up Marseille.

  10. Leipzig make eight changespublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 25 October 2018

    RB Leipzig v Celtic (17:55)

RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick makes sweeping changes from the weekend Bundesliga draw away to Augsburg.

We already knew that French centre-half Ibrahima Konate and German midfielder Diego Demme would miss out after picking up injuries in that 0-0 stalemate - and that Sweden winger Emil Forsberg's long absence would continue.

But only captain Willi Orban, the Hungary centre-half, vice-captain Kevin Kampl, the Slovenia midfielder, and France Under-21 striker Jean-Kevin Augustin retain their places in the starting line-up to face Celtic.

Ready for a quick stat attack?

Celtic have won only three of their 22 matches against German opposition, losing 14.

Celtic have never won in 11 attempts on German soil, losing eight times, but two of their past three visits were draws.

Celtic have never won away from home in 13 Europa League group games but have drawn eight of those.

Leipzig's five-game winning run at home in Europe was ended by Salzburg in the opening group game.

    RB Leipzig v Celtic (17:55)

Both teams have lost to Group B leaders Salzburg and RB Leipzig head coach Ralf Rangnick fully expects the Austrians to hold on to top spot.

"It looks like this and Celtic Park will be decisive to finish second and qualify from the group," he said at his media conference yesterday.

"Scott Brown is Celtic's driving force and he will be a big loss in no doubt what is going to be their toughest game in this group.

"I know Salzburg beat them in Germany, but I think Leipzig will be a big test.

"If they can get anything out of this game, it will be a bonus. They will need what Rangers got in Villarreal - a bit of luck."

Massive night for Lewis Morgan, Eboue Kouassi and Ryan Christie - they all now have a chance to impress Brendan Rodgers. But the simple fact is that this is a weakened Celtic side and getting any sort of positive result will be a very difficult task.

Celtic make five changes from Saturday's 4-2 win over Hibs.

Lewis Morgan makes his first start, while Cristian Gamboa, Jozo Simunovic, Eboue Kouassi and Ryan Christie come in.

Scott Brown and Tom Rogic are injured, while James Forrest is suspended following his red card in Salzburg. Filip Benkovic is only fit enough for the bench, where he is joined by Mikeal Lustig.

Celtic XI: Gordon, Gamboa, Simunovic, Boyata, Tierney, Kouassi, Ntcham, McGregor, Morgan, Christie, Edouard.

  16. Seconds out, round threepublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 25 October 2018

We've reached matchday three in the Europa League group phase, with Celtic in Germany and Rangers at home to Russian opposition.

RB Leipzig, with just one loss in the Bundesliga so far, will provide a stern test for Brendan Rodgers' men as both teams go into the game locked on three points.

Celtic have hit their straps since Salzburg swept them aside in Austria, scoring 10 in back-to-back wins over St Johnstone and Hibs, but manager Brendan Rodgers is without some key players.

Rangers, unbeaten at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard, sit top of their section and Spartak Moscow appear to be in a bad place, sacking their manager and leaving players at home.

How will it all pan out? Stay with us and find out.
