  1. 'Burnley should make welcome guests'published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

Crystal Palace v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

Roy Hodgson feels Palace have been better than their results suggest, and while they're without a win in eight league matches the last four of those fixtures were against Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United.

Scoring has been their big problem, so on paper Burnley should make for welcome guests.

Sean Dyche said he expected "questions would be asked" following Monday's defeat by Newcastle, and their defensive deterioration is likely to be a major line of enquiry.

Last season they had the best record outside of the top five; this time around only Fulham have shipped more than the 27 conceded by the Clarets - it took until the end of March for them to let in that many last term.

How can more English youngsters find their way to the top of the game?

Shaun, Bristol: Just seen today's EPL line ups. So few English or even British players in the starting line ups. It can't be right. We dominate international U17s to U21s and reached WC semi. Homegrown players are much better than the clubs give credit.

Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner: "Back-to-back wins in the Premier League are so difficult to achieve for clubs like us.

"We know this is something very big - we have done this only twice in the last season and now we have the opportunity to do it again, at home, against a very good opponent."

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton on the form of Glenn Murray: "It is unusual for somebody of Glenn's age to be as regularly fit as he is, and of course scoring goals at the highest levels.

"He has a great desire to want to continue playing and at the best level he can, and also scoring goals. But it's one thing saying that and another actually doing it. So we're very thankful that he is actually doing it."

Newcastle v West Ham (15:00 GMT)

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

As November began with Newcastle still winless and prophecies of relegation doom were sounded, Rafa Benitez remained sanguine., external

Pointing to last term's early struggles of Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, he more than once stated: "I am 100% convinced we will stay up."

Three wins out of three later, that confident message has spread, with the task now to keep the momentum against another team with an experienced manager who prefers to play the long game.

Manuel Pellegrini was also a picture of patience amid West Ham's losing start, and has now serenely played down any hype about the "pressure" of this particular finely-balanced game.

Keep calm and carry on, gentlemen.

Crystal Palace v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson on his side's poor home form: "We have had chances at home, and created more chances than we have away. But we have missed most of them.

"We aren't conceding that many, but we do need to score more goals. We are conscious of that and with the great home support we get, the faith and belief from them, I will always believe home games give us a good chance to get wins."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "No-one will ever put as much pressure on you as yourself. There's always pressure, that's the game that we're in.

"The belief has been strong here for a number of years. A lot of our performances this season have been very close. Last year we were on the right side of it."

Robbie, York: Am I crazy to think that Newcastle's three wins on the trot was nothing more than a parting gift from Rafa before he moves onto a bigger club in Jan? Plastering over the obvious cracks in our club isn't helping to be honest. It needs to be gutted and replaced with players and staff that care for the badge. Playing in the championship next year wouldn't be the worse thing. Get Moyesy in and build it up from scratch.

    Huddersfield v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Huddersfield's season has started to light up following a three-game unbeaten run. They jumped from the bottom to 16th and could move four points clear of the relegation zone with victory today.

They are still in a vulnerable position though and will need to be at their best - especially as in-form Glenn Murray will be waiting for his opportunity on the Brighton bench.

The visitors, who are currently sat in 12th place and look in a comfortable position above the drop zone, are without a win in three games.

A disappointing loss to Cardiff was backed up by a satisfactory draw against Leicester last weekend so they will want nothing less than three points today.

Victory for Brighton could push them up into 10th place should Leicester lose to Watford at home today.

Sterling celebrates his 97th-minute winner against Bournemouth in August 2017

The bad news for Bournemouth now we know who is lining up at the Etihad is that Raheem Sterling is in the City team - because to say Cherries boss Eddie Howe must be sick of the sight of him is something of an understatement.

Sterling bagged two goals against the south coast side in a League Cup tie while playing for Liverpool in December 2014 but it is his Premier League record against them for City that gives him the chance to make history today.

He scored his first career hat-trick in the first-half of a 5-1 win for City in October 2015, notched home and away in 2016-17, nicked a 97th-minute winner against them in August 2017 and also found the target again against them last December.

If he scores today, the England winger will become the first player in Premier League history to score in each of his first six games against a particular club.
