More from Jurgen Klopp: "We tried to control the game but we were not patient enough. They didn't come out of their half so we were trying to play in really small spaces. They had their counter attack still and that's how they got their set pieces. I think it's a foul on Virgil van Dijk, they always block heavily but then they go and score the goal for 2-2. We got lucky for 3-2 and with all the set pieces they're still a threat so it stayed interesting until the end.

"The result is massive, we have 60 points now it's crazy, it's an important number. I'm really proud, a few things happened that we don't really need, we're a bit short now on players but we have a few days and need to use the time now for recovery."

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was good. We won the other day and scored four in the FA Cup, coming back here after three days, we went to extra time and you could see the players were exhausted at the end.

"We did good. We scored three goals so everyone has to be happy.

"The main thing is the commitment of the players and then it was about trying to manage the game against a tough team, a physical team.

"Fabian Schar has quality on the ball. It [his first goal] was a great goal. The team were giving everything and this kind of game you know you have to work hard.

"I said before we would still have to win a lot of games to stay up."

Manchester United

Manchester United's Ashley Young: "I think for 70 minutes we were terrific. The chances we created, we just wanted that third goal. At times you have to dig deep and come through games like this and we showed that.

"It was backs to the wall when they scored but we still created chances and we are delighted with that win.

"Marcus Rashford is an unbelievable talent. I have said it since he was in the youth team. He has the world ahead of him and can be one of the best in the world. I think he was off balance and still found the net.

"We are delighted to get seven wins under Ole. When you are full of confidence you think you are going to win every game."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Match of the Day: "It's a massive relief. We knew for different reasons the game would be difficult. Crystal Palace traditionally do well against Liverpool and with the physicality it was clear it would be like the first half was.

"They are really good at counter attacks and set pieces, Wilfried Zaha is a world-class player and he gets into a one-on-one situation and we're one down. We had to stay positive, being one down is not a massive blow, we just needed to win the second half and did what we had to do."

Newcastle had to take three points and make a statement today. It was a good performance from Newcastle and three thoroughly deserved huge points.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross: "It was good character in the second half being 2-0 down. The first half we had to defend better where we conceded. It's a bit unlucky that we weren't good enough in those situations. But second half we showed we are a good team and stick together.

"We have shown some good performances away from home so we should keep going and believe in ourselves."

"It is a massive win for us, we were disappointed with the midweek result after a good result against Leicester, Premier League momentum is very important. We were in the game in the first half, in the second half you could see the energy and passion we have got from the manager and we came out deserved winners.

"The goal is one of my favourites, the manager wants us on the front foot and pressing, and I am delighted to get the goal.
