Manchester United need to go through an intelligent process to figure out who they want to be.

Solskjaer may have given a compelling case but if they gave him a contract now, even though he's been impressive, they won't learn anything.

They need to get it right, and bear in mind they've got the last three wrong in this regime.

  3. 'Guardiola was passive'published at 16:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2019

Manchester City v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on Football Focus

Pep Guardiola was sat almost passive [against Newcastle]. He put the ‘A’ team out, maybe it's fatigue or whether there wasn’t enough desire. They scored almost too early and got a little bit comfortable. They made silly mistakes and the belief was just ebbing away, handing it to Liverpool, who then didn’t cash in, so City are very much still in the race.

David Freedman: United were fortunate today.

Harrison Short: Mike Dean is like a gummi bear dispenser with those yellow cards today.

Michael Reid: Honestly a poor game by United, but up to 5th and only 2 points behind Chelsea. What a turn-around this has been!

That was Leicester's final chance surely. The ball drops to Harry Maguire in the box, he swings his right foot without any real confidence and it's wide of the far post.

Excellent play by Paul Pogba as he effortlessly glides past two Leicester players before drawing a foul from Wilfried Ndidi, who is booked. And eating up valuable time.

Leicester play the corner short and then Kelechi Iheanacho's header is so bad, it's like a defensive one. Literally went backwards.

United counter and Anthony Martial's shot is saved.

Leicester have a corner, as United bring on Phil Jones for Jesse Lingard. United just trying to see this one out - although they say never make a sub on a corner.

Was that Leicester's chance? Harvey Barnes speeds down the left wing and cuts it back to Jamie Vardy - but his first-time effort from near the penalty spot is straight at David de Gea.

    Had to do better.
