St Mirren have given themselves a lifeline back into the game after it looked like Accies had dealt them a killer smash and grab blow.
The home side had been on top until taking the lead through Dougie Imrie's header.
Ziggy Gordon's first Accies goal since returning from his travels abroad increased the lead.
However, Stephen McGinn played a captain's role for the Buddies with a quick reply on the turn.
It's still in the balance at the break.
Dougie Imrie put Accies ahead in Paisley
A dominant first-half display from the Lions, who are on course to end their run of four games without victory.
Stevie Lawless ought to have given them the lead early on when he was denied by a brilliant point-blank save from Mark Gillespie.
But the midfielder did strike with 22 minutes gone, rifling a low shot beyond Gillespie from a long throw-in.
Teenage striker Jack Hamilton had a chance to make it 2-0 but blasted high over the bar from inside the box.
Motherwell have created very little and their distribution and close control has been slack on the artificial surface.
That first half was all about Kilmarnock. They have dominated Hibernian with Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart in particular doing the damage.
Eamonn Brophy's brace, his second a penalty, gives the hosts a cushion going into the second period but one goal from the visitors could change all that.
Stephen McGinn
St Mirren quickly reply to Accies' second goal as Ethan Erhahon heads the ball back into the box following a corner and Stephen McGinn fires home on the turn from 10 yards.
Faissal El Bakhtaoui pen
Ziggy Gordon
Dougie Imrie eyes a second goal for himself and Accies, but the captain's low drive from a difficult angle rebounds off the feet of goalkeeper Danny Rogers.
However, the goal is only delayed a matter of minutes as James Keatings' fine free-kick finds Matthew Kilgallon and Ziggy Gordon competing to provide the finish, with the latter given the doubt with the final finish.
St Mirren 0-1 Hamilton Academical
Paul McGinn rises to meet a cross looped to the back post and the Buddies right-back's header squirms wide of the back post.
That was close!
Livingston 1-0 Motherwell

The Motherwell players are getting a bit exasperated that things aren’t yet going their way at Livingston. The hosts are breaking up play and there’s been a few footballs booted off advertising hoardings by the visitors as they let out their frustration at decisions not going their way.
Livingston 1-0 Motherwell
Big chance for 18-year-old Jack Hamilton to double Livingston's lead.
The striker picks up a low cross from the left inside the box, but blasts over the bar.
Zak Rudden
St Mirren 0-1 Hamilton Academical
You imagine Hamilton's defenders - indeed, St Mirren's forwards - wouldn't want to upset this guy.
Jan Muncha looks to be an imposing presence in goal for Accies on his debut.
The man who turns 36 next week has plenty of experience as well - 46 caps for Slovakia and a career spent in the top flight in his homeland, Russia, Poland and England.
Kilmarnock 2-0 Hibernian

Quote MessageKilmarnock have really turned the screw the last few minutes. Their wide players have been outstanding. Hibs really have a big mountain to climb now
Eamonn Brophy, penalty
Eamonn Brophy fires the ball right down the middle to double his and Kilmarnock's tally for the day.
Kilmarnock 1-0 Hibernian
Jordan Jones is tripped by Darren McGregor and Kilmarnock have a penalty.

Fresh from missing that glaring opportunity a few minutes earlier, Steven Lawless atones by putting his side ahead and it’s his third goal of the season.
Gary Holt’s men have looked energetic and creative today despite coming into the match with only one win in their previous five games.
Kilmarnock 1-0 Hibernian
Kilmarnock will not give Hibs a minute's peace. Greg Stewart's shot is blocked then Eamonn Brophy's cross is cut out by Adam Bogdan; then Stewart turns Mark Milligan inside out only to have his low ball across intercepted by Efe Ambrose.
The hosts have Hibs under the cosh - can they make their superiority count with a second goal?

Hibernian are still coming to terms with their formation against Kilmarnock. Efe Ambrose is playing in the unusual role of a sitting midfielder and Steve Clarke has evidently picked up on that with Alan Power and Gary Dicker closing down quickly giving little time on the ball.
The pace of Eamonn Brophy up front for Killie is causing huge problems for the visitors and, with Greg Stewart, the pair are proving a real handful.
It would be no surprise if Neil Lennon resorts to a more orthodox back four sooner rather than later.
Stevie Lawless
Motherwell fail to heed their warning.
Another Livingston long throw finds Stevie Lawless in the penalty box.
This time, the midfielder makes no mistake. His low half-volley is rifled beyond Mark Gillespie and into the back of the net. The Lions score for the first time in five matches.
