We're not even a day into 2019 and the EFL has already delivered signs that it's going to be another remarkable year for the 72 member clubs.

Take the Championship for instance. It's as open as a 24-hour garage. It's exciting - we had 43 goals in the 12 games alone today.

We saw Leeds edged by Forest in a thriller, we saw resurgent Hull hit Bolton for six, Sheffield United thumping Wigan, Villa and QPR locked in a thrilling draw.

We're going to need another holiday to get over it all. Alas, many of us will be back at work - so just take it easy eh?

Kalvin Phillips was sent off in the first half of Leeds' defeat at Nottingham Forest for a poor tackle on Adlene Guedioura and he's been quick to apologise on social media after the match...

So it was a second straight defeat for Championship leaders Leeds, who went down 4-2 in a cracking game at the City Ground.

And down the bottom it's not looking great for Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys are now 10 points from safety after their 3-2 defeat at home by Millwall, who are themselves now six points clear of danger after their third consecutive win.

Reading went down 4-1 at home against Swansea and Bolton drop into the relegation zone after getting battered 6-0 at Hull.

Rotherham move out of the bottom three thanks to their victory over Preston.

Here's what today's results have done to the top of the Championship table.

It hasn't been the best day for the top six, with leaders Leeds losing at Nottingham Forest after going down to 10 men.

That is back-to-back defeats for Marcelo Bielsa's men.

Norwich could only draw at Brentford, so Sheffield United are the big winners of the day, moving within touching distance of the automatic promotion places after winning at Wigan.

• Sunderland win at Blackpool, while Luton and Barnsley draw at Kenilworth Road.
• Port Vale deny League Two leaders Lincoln victory with a 90th-minute equaliser.
• MK Dons and Mansfield keep up the pressure on the Imps, with the Dons hammering Cambridge 6-0.

• Nottingham Forest beat leaders Leeds 4-2 in a bonkers match at the City Ground. Forest were 2-1 down but fought back brilliantly in the closing stages.
• Norwich scored a late equaliser to draw at Brentford and remain second.
• West Bromwich Albion's long unbeaten run was ended by a 2-1 loss at Blackburn, while the Baggies also had Jake Livermore sent off.
• Sheffield United were the only side inside the top six to win on New Year's Day and are up to third after beating Wigan 3-0.

It's a big boost for Forest boss Aitor Karanka, who has put up with whispers of his departure throughout the festive period.

Big win for the Millers, who are grateful to saves by Marek Rodak, goals from Michael Smith and Will Vaulks for victory against Preston, whose reply came from Lukas Nmecha.

Another of the Championship's high-fliers have slumped to defeat in 2019, it's West Brom's turn at the hands of an impressive Blackburn side.

Baggies drop to fourth, Rovers are 15th but not for long if they play like that.

Almost a winner for Norwich.
