With Real Madrid in Club World Cup action, Barcelona have the chance to move eight points clear of their bitter rivals in La Liga.

Going into the weekend, Ernesto Valverde's side sat three points clear of Sevilla and Atletico Madrid at the summit - a gap that has just been bridged by Atletico with a narrow 1-0 win over Espanyol.

Barcelona can restore their three point lead with victory tonight, while Sevilla face the task of keeping pace against Leganes tomorrow afternoon.

We're approaching kick-off in Barcelona now, with just 10 minutes to go until they get under way against Celta Vigo.

So, what's the situation in La Liga?

Real lead at half-time but it's not a thriller.

Real have a corner, Sergio Ramos heads it into the air and Al Ain threaten a break. Ramos fouls Caio and gets a booking.

Real are just passing the ball round with ease, Marcelo pirouettes on the edge of the box for no reason and almost loses the ball.

Eventually Lucas Vazquez wins a corner as he tries to go past a defender in the box. He wanted a penalty and gives it the ol' VAR signal.

Luka Modric hits a bouncing volley from the edge of the box now but it's well saved.

Real Madrid have another chance to score but Gareth Bale's header is turned over the bar by Al Ain keeper Khalid Eisa.

They could do with a second to make things more comfortable as we close in on half-time.

Lucas Vazquez finds Karim Benzema but the French striker shoots over the bar. That's the first shot for either team in about 10 minutes.

Real Madrid rarely thrash the opposition in these finals. They beat San Lorenzo 2-0 in 2014, Kashima Antlers 4-2 in extra time in 2016 and Gremio 1-0 last year.
