  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 74 mins

    Stoke 0-1 West Brom

Jacob Murphy's shift is over. A knock in the first half may well have speeded up the on-loan man's his exit. Jefferson Montero comes on for his debut.

On his day he can be a a real danger. Great pace and trickery. He will relish the chance as space opens up up late on.

A sloppy passage of play in the middle of the park sees both sides guilty of wasting possession. It's all gone a bit scrappy.

Nottingham Forest remained five points off the play-offs after they beat Brentford thanks to goals from Lewis Grabban and Molla Wague. Boss Martin O'Neill praised Grabban, despite the fact he missed a second-half penalty.

“Lewis did very well, he did excellently. I thought he was very good,” said O’Neill.

“I have just been told about his penalty record, which is not so good – so he might not grab the next one.

“But his whole performance was very strong. He worked hard; he worked exceptionally hard when we did not have the ball.

“I had slight concerns about him being able to do the job on his own and we tried to get help to him as quickly as possible. But there were times when he did brilliantly as an individual.”

That's more like it from Stoke. Better urgency from James McClean, who strides forward down the left and sends in a cross which is cleared.

But only to Oghenekaro Etebo, who crashes an effort towards goal but it comes off his own man.

Moments later Tom Ince has another direct run for the hosts, this time winging his way towards goal before firing off target.

    Stoke 0-1 West Brom

West Brom are taking the pace out of the game as much as they can. And Stoke are getting a little bit frustrated.

Joe Allen dives in on Jake Livermore and surely only the West Brom player's reaction stops the Stoke midfielder going into the book.

The Baggies are looking relatively comfortable.

  9. The wait goes on for Scholes?published at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2019

BBC Radio Manchester were reporting earlier that Paul Scholes was expected to be appointed as Oldham Athletic's new manager at 18:30 - and it won't have escaped your attention that time has now passed, I'm sure.

The chat now is that an announcement tonight is looking rather less likely.

Stoke have a free-kick out wide on the their right. But it's overcooked and Danny Batth can't get on the end of it at the back post.

Jacob Murphy is back on the pitch. He's not looking altogether happy, it must be said.

What a cross in from Tom Edwards. It was begging to be turned in at the far post but no one from Stoke got near it as it sped across the six-yard box from right to left.

By the way, the West Brom kit... surely one of the best ever? The garish green and yellow, a nod to a glorious era and just so wonderfully different.

I would have loved to hear the first new strip discussions.

    "So away kit? Blue, red?

"What about green and yellow stripes? But bright yellow. Really bright. Let's be noticed. Dare to be different."

    "Oh. I quite like blue."

A quiet start. Nathan Jones doesn't like that. The Stoke manager is standing out at the edge of throwing his arms about again and trying to gee up his side.

You could never accuse him of lacking passion.

  19. Wigan comeback pleases Cookpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2019

    FT: Rotherham 1-1 Wigan

On the other side of the fence, Wigan boss Paul Cook was pleased to grind out a draw at Rotherham after they lost skipper Danny Fox to a head injury.

“I think when Rotherham scored there was only going to be one result," Cook said.

"They were nearly unplayable at times in the first half. We could not keep them off us.“We didn’t get a foothold in the game but we scored against the run of play. That’s football and you go in at half-time thankful that you’re still in the game.

"A lot of teams would have gone under today, although I don’t think it was a great game to watch."

Rotherham remain one point above the relegation zone after a 1-1 draw at home to Wigan, but manager Paul Warne says failing to win was a missed opportunity.

“I thought we caused them no end of problems and should have really gone in up at half-time," he said.“We haven’t not won the game by a lack of effort. People don’t go out to miss chances but collectively we have to take them to win games.“It was a perfect opportunity. Had we won, we could have pulled Wigan back into it, tried to get away from Reading and got closer to Millwall.

"If we would have taken three points it would have looked great."
