It was a disappointing start for Japan, especially with the opposition they were playing against. Before the game, it was almost a case of how many will they win it by? But they didn't - and they didn't create an awful lot either - and that will be the most worrying thing. They had a lot of entries into the final third but didn't do an awful lot with it.

So, we've got to wait until Friday for our next taste of Group D action. That seems so far away!

Argentina were fantastic. I'll be the first to admit, I didn't expect that result at all, but all credit to them, they thoroughly deserved it.

They stuck to their game plan and showed discipline, commitment, communication - you could see that they were managing the game.

Here's how Group D looks after that one.

I don't think anybody was expecting a 0-0 there.

I tip my hat to Argentina, but Japan will not be happy with that one.

Well that was hardly a classic.

But it's an historic moment for Argentina. There are hugs, and a few tears. That means a lot.

Their first ever World Cup point. They deserved that.

A humongous sigh of relief from all of Argentina.

Clever feet see her almost through on goal, but her final touch is a poor one as the ball escapes her and she collides into a defender.

Estefania Banini has been a thorn in Japan's side all day.

She's brought down by Mana Iwabuchi and the Japan forward goes into the book.

From the resulting free-kick, whipped in from the left, Mariela Coronel jumps highest but her header goes wide.

Vanina Correa gets her first touch of the ball in a while, jumping high to gather a dangerous Japan cross.

As she lands, she cradles the ball like her life depends on it.

Will. Not. Be. Beaten.

Japan have not really tried to do anything different, or counter what Argentina have done. Most of the play has been in front of the Argentine back four, it's been relatively easy to deal with.

Another break for Argentina as Sole Jaimes picks up the ball on the edge of the box.

She shifts the ball on the edge of the box but her shot is once again deflected away from goal and Ayaka Yamashita can collect.

Argentina make two changes in quick succession.

Florencia Bonsegundo makes way for fellow striker Mariana Larroquette.

Then, Lorena Benítez comes off for Mariela Coronel.

There is a temptation for Argentina to throw bodies forward and see whether they can get that goal, but it has to be tempered and balanced with the fact they've done so well so far to defend against what Japan have to offer and they've not conceded.
