    Argentina 0-0 Japan

All credit to Argentina, they really are not letting Japan in on goal.

The South Americans look to be finding their feet again in this second half, but it's still Japan on top.

Ooooh, a challenge on Aldana Cometti by Yuika Sugasawa and Florencia Bonsegundo is not a happy bunny! She's furious, and making the referee well aware of it.

Moments later, Bonsegundo gets the ball in the box, she does well but her shot is lacking power and the keeper easily gathers.

Japan are getting into positions and sometimes just need to shoot. They're trying to create that perfect goal and sometimes it's one pass too many.

    Argentina 0-0 Japan

Sole Jaimes gets a chance on goal as Argentina make their first foray into Japan's box this half.

Good defending from Japan though, as two defenders block her shot which looks to be on target.

Argentina make their first sub of the day.

Vanesa Santana's World Cup starts now as Ruth Bravo makes way.

A lot of energy has gone out of Argentina's press, which is understandable.

They worked so hard in the first half and it was quite warm at pitch level. It would have taken a lot out of the players.

It's hard to maintain that for 90 minutes and you can sense that at the start of the second half.

    Argentina 0-0 Japan

Japan are posing much more of a threat in this half, but still no goals.

Before kick-off, at least two colleagues said to me "this one's going to have loads of goals in it".

    Guys, you jinxed it!

    Argentina 0-0 Japan

Iwabuchi makes an immediate impact, fizzing past defenders out on the left wing but she's brought down just outside the box. She wants a free-kick, but the referee isn't having it.

    Boos from the Japan fans.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 57 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Japan

There was a substitution just after that missed effort.

Kumi Yokoyama goes off, and Mana Iwabuchi is on in her place.

It was really clever play down the right and Yui Hasegawa has got to put that on target.

Oh Yui Hasegawa, you're not going to want to watch that one back. What a miss..

A ball from Risa Shimizu finds her in the box, and with the goal wide open in front of her, she somehow puts it well wide of Vanina Correa's right-hand post.

Japan don't really put the ball at risk in the final third and that's been their undoing so far this afternoon.

Everything's very good technically, they keep the ball well, but it's all quite safe.

If Takukura told her players to push a bit further forward, then they have listened.

From nothing, Kumi Yokoyama has a great shot on goal, and Vanina Correa can only push it into the path of Yuika Sugasawa.

Fortunately for Argentina, she absolutely skies it. Should have done so much better.

  15. Second half under waypublished at 46 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Japan

We're off in the second half.

Following on from what Laura Bassett said at half-time, we've just seen Japan boss Asako Takakura sat on the bench with the whiteboard out.

    She means business.

Japan are normally so precise, so intricate. They need to start drawing Argentina out, manipulating the opposition to create spaces. I just think they're playing into Argentina's hands so far.

Japan captain Saki Kumagai completed 54 of the 55 passes she attempted in the first half - more than any other player.

Argentina's centre-backs have had a bit of a day off because Japan's forwards have come deep to get the ball but no-one's getting beyond them.

    They're not actually threatening Argentina's back-line.

The only joy Japan are getting is with the wide players coming in and the full-backs getting on, but they're not getting into the central areas.

While we're on the subject, does anyone else think these pre-tournament photo shoots look SO MUCH FUN?

I'm going to ask my bosses if we can have a photo shoot like this. Not sure how the pics would be used, but I'm always in the market for a new Twitter profile photo...
