    SFA disciplinary system

Clare Whyte joined the SFA from Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in the summer - and probably wishes she was back there.

An online petition calling for the compliance officer to resign has gathered thousands of signatures this week.

Rangers called for the SFA to review their disciplinary system "as a matter of extreme urgency" after Allan McGregor failed in an appeal against a two-match ban.

And yesterday we had Hibs chief exec Leeann Dempster saying "there is a lot of discontent" with the process.

    Plastic pitches

PFA Scotland caused a stir when they announced that "every player" at the nine Premiership clubs that play on grass is against synthetic surfaces.

That reignited the old plastic pitch debate.

We had Rangers boss Steven Gerrard saying: "The people that run this league should do more to make sure the games are played on grass."

We had Steve Clarke saying an artificial surface was "economically the best thing" for Kilmarnock.

"I think the players have got to be listened to," said Aberdeen gaffer Derek McInnes, who is also aware that we have been here before - many times, as he added: "If it just fills a couple of days' papers and nothing gets done about it and we're still here next year still having the same thing..."

    Aberdeen v St Mirren (15:00)

With centre-back Scott McKenna suspended, Michael Devlin's return to full fitness after three months out with a foot injury is most welcome for Aberdeen. He comes in to partner Andy Considine in the centre of defence, Shay Logan misses out with an ankle injury. After his inspired intervention from the bench against a stubborn Queen of the South- scoring one and assisting two - Niall McGinn earns himself a start, with Stevie May dropping to the bench.

St Mirren also make two changes as their need becomes ever greater in the scrap to avoid relegation. On-loan Derby midfielder Kyle McAllister, a product of the Buddies' academy, replaces Greg Tansey. Anton Ferdinand also returns to the XI, winger Anders Dreyer is out.

Rangers can’t let the gap get any bigger. Celtic’s domestic form has been first class and you’d expect them to continue to amass points. It’s a case of Rangers having to have no slip ups at all. Rangers can’t afford not to take the three points every time they are available.

Two changes for Livingston with Keaghan Jacobs and Scott Robinson in for Steve Lawson and Steven Lawless, who are both on the bench.

Dundee are unchanged as both teams play their first match in 10 days.

    Rangers v St Johnstone (15:00)

With top scorer Alfredo Morelos suspended, Jermain Defoe starts up front for Rangers despite being an injury concern and fellow striker Kyle Lafferty is fit enough for a place on the bench.

Wes Foderingham takes over from suspended goalkeeper Allan McGregor and there is a first appearance for Glen Kamara after his deadline day arrival from Dundee. The Finland international will be joined in the middle of the park by Steven Davis as Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield drop out.

St Johnstone's Michael O'Halloran misses out against his former side with a tight hamstring and fellow forward Tony Watt is absent due to an ankle knock.

Chris Kane leads the line for the Perth side and Cammy Bell faces his former club as he stands in for the injured Zander Clark in goals.

    Scottish Championship

With leaders Ross County having been on Challenge Cup semi-final duty, beating East Fife 2-1 last night, Ayr United have the chance to go top on goal difference should they win away to Greenock Morton.

Dundee United, who are a further three points adrift, are away to fifth-placed Queen of the South.

Alloa Athletic must avoid defeat against Partick Thistle or they will be replacing their visitors at the foot of the table having played a game more.

Meanwhile, Dunfermline Athletic are still looking for a first win after four games under new manager Stevie Crawford as they host fourth-top Inverness Caledonian Thistle and try to avoid being drawn into relegation zone.

    Scottish League One

Game of the day in Scotland's League One has leaders Arbroath visiting second-top Raith Rovers looking to protect their impressive 13-point lead and with the promotion pressure appearing to weigh down both camps.

Rovers won their last match-up, 2-0 at Gayfield in December, but the Kirkcaldy outfit are without a win in three games.

The Red Lichties have also stumbled in the last two weeks, losing to Forfar Athletic then being held to a draw in midweek by Stranraer - both at home.

Third-top Forfar are away to fifth-placed Montrose, who will be hoping to narrow the six-point gap with East Fife, who were in Challenge Cup action last night.

    Scottish League Two

Leaders Edinburgh City are in Challenge Cup semi-final action this evening away to Welsh side Connah's Quay Nomads, so Peterhead and Clyde, who both have two games in hand, have the chance to narrow the gap at the top of Scotland's League Two.

The Blue Toon, four points adrift, are at home to third-bottom Queen's Park.

The Bully Wee, two points further back but unbeaten in 12 games, host an Albion Rovers side who have not won in 12 since Kevin Harper became manager, have lost their last five and are seven points behind Berwick Rangers at the foot of the table.

Annan Athletic visit Cowdenbeath, while Stirling Albion, one point behind the Galabankies in fifth, are away to Elgin City.

New Hibs head coach Paul Heckingbottom only met the players on Thursday and he sticks with the team that eased past Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup last weekend.

Accies boss Brian Rice brings back striker David McMillan, who sat out the win over parent club St Johnstone, while there are also starts for Tony Andreu and Mickel Miller.

    Hibernian v Hamilton (15:00)

Paul Heckingbottom's green and white army... It doesn't really trip off the tongue, does it? However, I'm sure Hibs fans won't take too long to find a suitable song for their new head coach

The former Barnsley and Leeds boss takes to the Easter Road dugout for the first time today.

So what can we expect from the 41-year-old Yorkshireman?

Yesterday, he said: "We want to be on the front foot all the time, when we win the ball we want to play forward. I don't want any fear. I'm not bothered if we lose the ball. If we lose the ball trying to do the right things, great, we will just try and win it back high up the pitch.

"We want to be difficult to play against, play on the front foot, play with an energy and pace that's exciting."

  16. Rangers & Aberdeen look to press home advantagepublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2019

Good afternoon and welcome to another Scottish Premiership weekend. Leaders Celtic visit Kilmarnock tomorrow, so this is a chance for Rangers and Aberdeen to put points on the board and pressure their rivals at the top end of the table.

The bottom three are all in action, with Hamilton aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time since last March and St Mirren out to arrest a run of five defeats on the bounce.
