    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Birmingham free-kick in Villa's half as Tyrone Mings is adjudged to have unfairly brought Che Adams down.

Ironic cheers from the home fans and an ironic clap from Adams himself towards referee Tim Robinson.

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Not really settled down yet in this second half.

Another booking for Birmingham as David Davis sees yellow for a late shove on Jack Grealish.

  3. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Jacques Maghoma's free-kick is half blocked by the Villa wall and it nearly breaks for Che Adams to score.

But the Birmingham striker's effort is tame and easy for Jed Steer to collect.

  4. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Jack Grealish finds a bit of room to surge forward with the ball for Villa and then takes aim from 30 yards out.

High and wide of goal though on this occasion and into the travelling fans behind the goal.

  5. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Somewhat sedate start to the second half.

Villa with plenty of the ball, but most of it inside their own half.

Right, let's get back to the football.

Fingers crossed someone in either Blue or Claret makes the headlines come full-time.

It was a cowardly attack - how has he got on to the pitch? You have to guarantee the safety of the players.

You can have all the banter and wind each other up, but it's a game of football.

Everyone is looking at our game, our derby and our city now because an idiot has come on the pitch and done that.

It got off to one of the nastiest starts ever seen in any derby game, admittedly.

And feelings are still clearly running high.

But, in the final 20 minutes of the first half, this Blues-Villa confrontation has actually now settled into a decent contest.

A lot of whole hearted challenges going in from two sides both clearly fired up to win.

Enough to provide a distraction to what we all know will be the main headline from this game. But the ugly memory of that cowardly punch from behind by a home fan at an opposition player will take a long time to fade.

    Reaction to attack on Grealish

Leon Walcott: Coward. A punch from behind, they should send him into the Villa changing room after to give an apology and see how brave he is then with no fans behind.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2019

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

And that's the break at St Andrew's.

Lots to talk about there, sadly not all of it to do with the football, but both sides have had their chances.

    Scoreless at half-time nonetheless.

  14. ouch!

Lukas Jutkiewicz down again after another heavy collision.

Kortney Hause has accidentally caught him on the head this time as they both jumped for the ball.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45+1 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Lukas Jutkiewicz booked for that collision.

Seemed a bit harsh but Tim Robinson seemingly applies the letter of the law.

Three minutes being added on at the end of this first half.

Jed Steer in the wars now for Villa as Lukas Jutkiewicz tries to nick the ball off him in a 50-50.

  17. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Close for Birmingham and Che Adams!

Shot on the turn that goes fizzing along the turf with his right foot and just wide of Jed Steer's left post that had the Villa keeper at full stretch.

    Reaction to attack on Grealish

Phillippa: Hats off to @AVFCOfficial, external's Jack Grealish who stayed calm after he was attacked from behind by an idiot... Not may people would keep calm when confronted by that.

Chris Leonard: That pitch attack today was just a snap shot of how our society in this country is going right now, Violence comes really easy with seemingly little consequence. He needs the book thrown at him.

  19. ouch!

    Postpublished at 41 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Another moment of concern here for Lukas Jutkiewicz as he hits the deck from a challenge with Neil Taylor.

He should be OK to continue but has to take the mandatory walk off the pitch first.

Jack Grealish meanwhile has a chat with the fourth official Gavin Ward but Blues assistant manager Pep Clotet seems less than pleased about that for some reason.

    Tetchy stuff all round.

  20. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Birmingham City 0-0 Aston Villa

Birmingham's Wes Harding proving a menace to Villa down the right as he nearly gets in from a throw-in to put the ball across goal.

Scrambled clear by Villa in the meantime, but Harding has looked lively at right-back so far.
