  1. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    Hibernian 0-0 Rangers

Ooft, what a belter of a cross from Daniel Candeias to create the game's first chance.

A lovely, curling delivery from the right flies inches past the arriving Ryan Kent at the back post. That was very nearly the opening goal.

Moments later, Andy Halliday gets up the left flank and his cross is deflected into the arms of Ofir Marciano by Stevie Mallan. Encouraging stuff from Rangers. It's been all them so far.

Now he's walking a tightrope for the rest of the match. He's got to be careful now. I thought he was unfortunate though.

Early booking for McGregorpublished at 9 mins

    Hibernian 0-0 Rangers

Darren McGregor eases Alfredo Morelos off the ball, but as he does so, flings his left arm across the face of the Colombia striker.

He catches Morelos flush in the chops and picks up an early booking - deservedly so.

McGregor, as they say, is walking a tightrope for the rest of the match.

  4. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Hibernian 0-0 Rangers

James Tavernier just about catches the ball as he blocks an attempted through ball from Stevie Mallan. No hand-ball given by Steven McLean.

Rangers probe again but it's another heavy pass that rolls all the way out for a goal kick.

  5. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Hibernian 0-0 Rangers

Rangers enjoying the lions' share of the early possession and territory, knocking the ball around the edge of the Hibs box.

Hibs get a foot or a head in here and there and Alfredo Morelos takes a clumsy touch as he looks to burn past Lewis Stevenson, the ball trundling out for a goal kick.

Stephane Omeonga has gone to the left and it's almost 4-4-2 for Hibs. We spoke about the problems of that formation against Rangers' three in the middle of the park. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

  7. Midfield tusslingpublished at 2 mins

    Hibernian 0-0 Rangers

Rangers fans - as you'd expect - are packing out the South Stand.

Their team win a free-kick as Stevie Mallan grapples with Ryan Jack around halfway.

That could be a key battle as this game progresses.

  10. Jack 'will pull through' with Barisic out illpublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard tells BT Sport that although Ryan Jack is carrying a knock, he will "pull through for the cause" tonight.

"It's just a knock, just a bang," Gerrard said.

He also reveals Borna Barisic is missing after being up all night ill, as he calls for his side to take all three points at Easter Road.

"We have to come here and take maximum points," said Gerrard. "They've taken four points off us, we don't think that was deserved."

  12. Can Motherwell keep Hastie?published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

Hastie has propelled himself on to the front pages, as a young lad he's worked his way from loan spells into a very differently-operating Motherwell side. He's been a huge part of their transformation. He's become a really important player and it'll be interesting to see if they can hold on to him. Stevie Robinson will feel pretty sick if he does leave.

  13. Hastie bound for Ibrox?published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

Is Motherwell's teen sensation Jake Hastie bound for Ibrox?

The scintillating winger is being heavily linked with a move to Rangers.

His contract is up in the summer and with Motherwell trying hard to convince him to stay, boss Stephen Robinson says the 19-year-old "has a decision to make".

With four goals in his last six games, here's a snapshot of what may have caught Rangers' eye...

  14. Morelos 'only needs a half-chance' - Heckingbottompublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

Hibernian head coach Paul Heckingbottom says his players will not set out to wind up Alfredo Morelos: “He has got a fuse but we are going to focus on ourselves. I’ve noticed in games a few of his team-mates have got him away from any potential flare-ups which is wise but that maybe adds to his game.

“Morelos is a little bit off-the-cuff, so regardless of how quiet a game he’s having, his goal record speaks for itself – he only needs a half-chance.

“The pitch is quick, flat, nice and wet now so hopefully it’ll make for a fast game. Disappointed with the result against Celtic but it was clear to me that it was us being wasteful with the ball against a really good side. On the whole, we were strong. We didn’t pose them enough problems."

The two wide players, Kent and Candeias, are the key players at times. They work very hard, off the ball they get back do their shift defensively. Hibs, when they have the ball, what can they do with it in the final third?

  16. 'Strong boy' McNulty spearheads Hibs attackpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

Hibernian striker Marc McNulty, a January loanee from Reading, has scored six goals in his last five games for the Easter Road club.

    Quote Message

I really like Marc McNulty - great movement, strong boy, prepared to do the dirty work. Him and Kamberi up there can be a real threat because they're prepared to work, both very strong, very good at taking it in. And Hibs have a couple of players behind them in Stevie Mallan and Daryl Horgan to give them ammunition.

  17. Viva El Buffalopublished at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

Alfredo Morelos signed a new Rangers contract today - just six months after agreeing his previous deal.

You'd imagine that reflects how highly the Ibrox hierarchy rate the Premiership's top scorer - he's got 16 goals in the league and 28 in all competitions this term.

Managing director Stewart Robertson was recently quoted as saying Rangers valued Morelos "at least the same" as Moussa Dembele, who left Celtic for £19.7m in the summer.

His well-documented disciplinary record this season is not great - he's been sent off four times - but the Colombian's goals, dynamism and relentless work-rate are of colossal importance to Rangers.

"It's always important at big clubs like this one to make sure your top players are secured long term," Steven Gerrard said.

"Alfredo has been excellent for Rangers and his scoring record tells you he is in tune with what we are trying to achieve. He is what Rangers need."

  18. 'Hecky's at the wheel...'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

"...tell me how good does it feel?"

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it as the Manchester United fans' tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the Hibs supporters have a song of their own for new boss Paul Heckingbottom.

The Englishman won his first three games in charge but Hibs were pretty underwhelming in their Scottish Cup exit to Celtic six days ago.

If they're as passive again this evening, they could be in for a long night...

  19. Rangers on the rampagepublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

Rangers are on an unbeaten run of 10 games in all competitions, winning seven and drawing three.

They've beaten Aberdeen and Kilmarnock in that stint and racked up some heavy victories over Dundee, Hamilton Academical and the Rugby Park side.

Free-scoring at one end, Rangers have been pretty stout at the other, keeping a clean sheet in seven of those 10 matches.

In fact, they've only lost one goal in their past six games - Sam Cosgrove's Scottish Cup penalty on Sunday.

  20. Gerrard seeks first win over Hibspublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2019

    Hibernian v Rangers (19:45)

Hibs are the only top-flight team Rangers have failed to beat under Steven Gerrard.

Rangers will feel they should have won both encounters this season, which ended in 0-0 and 1-1 draws during December.

They squandered a glut of chances in the Easter Road stalemate and suffered a late Darren McGregor equaliser at Ibrox seven days later.
