Wales' experienced back line including captain Ashley Williams are happy to knock the ball about between them in the opening stages as the hosts dominate the early possession.

They move the ball up the pitch quickly though and Ryan Hedges crosses onto Tyler Roberts' head, but it's comfortable for Marvin Phillip in the Trinidad goal.

  9. Moves abroad excite Giggspublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2019

    Wales v Trinidad & Tobago (19:45 GMT)

Ryan Giggs has backed Aaron Ramsey to take his game to the next level when he ends his 11-year stay at Arsenal this summer to joins Juventus.

"You've seen what going abroad has done for Gareth. It will be a great experience for Aaron," said Giggs. "Look at the facilities Juventus have got, they are a massive club, the biggest in Italy."

Ramsey isn't the only Wales player who has decided to move abroad, however, with Giggs admitting 18-year-old Rabbi Matondo's decision to leave Man City for Schalke came as a bit of a surprise.

"I was slightly surprised but Rabbi is a talent," added the Wales boss. "It is great he has had that different experience, like I've touched on with Rambo, and gone to a different country. It brings a different flavour to the group and that's good."

  10. What about Trinidad & Tobago?published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2019

    Wales v Trinidad & Tobago (19:45 GMT)

Visiting head coach and former Wrexham defender Dennis Lawrence says his side are in a "rebuilding stage" after failing to qualify for last year's World Cup in Russia.

Part of Roberto Martinez' backroom staff at Wigan and Everton, Lawrence's focus is now firmly on reaching Qatar 2022 - securing a first World Cup since 2006 and that apparently still painful Peter Crouch incident, external.

Currently ranked 93rd in the world, the Soca Warriors arrive in Wales hoping to compete with a side which their manager believes are "world class".

    Wales v Trinidad & Tobago (19:45 GMT)

While over in Germany Joachim Low has effectively retired three of his most experienced players, what of Ryan Giggs' selections?

Experimenting with his team once again, the Wales boss has described his approach to tonight's game as "a balancing act" as he looks to manage game-time, in a week when 34-year-old captain Ashley Williams played down any talks of his international retirement.

Giggs added: "Players are at different stages. It's a good opportunity with the friendly fixture that we can have that [mix]. We'll just have to see as we go along in the game."

  12. The last time these two met...published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2019

    Wales v Trinidad & Tobago (19:45 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at the Racecourse

Wales have only faced Trinidad and Tobago once before, and it proved to be a significant game in Welsh football history as it featured a senior international debut for a then 16-year-old Gareth Bale.

Trinidad and Tobago’s current manager Dennis Lawrence was playing in central defence for his country that day.

“It was young Gareth then and he was a lot, lot quicker than he is now! It was very good for us,” he said.

“We were preparing our team to go to the World Cup and we needed games. Wales were formidable opposition, so it was fantastic build-up for us going into the World Cup.

“They’ve come on a lot since then so we’re expecting an even tougher challenge.”

I understand the reason for experimenting but a lot of people from North Wales have bought tickets specifically to see Gareth Bale. Not much thought for supporters Mr Giggs!!

    Wales v Trinidad & Tobago (19:45 GMT)

Wales have only ever faced Trinidad and Tobago once, recording a 2-1 victory as the sides met in Austria back in 2006.

And though that in itself may not seem too significant, a certain debut was.

In that match, a 16-year-old Gareth Bale emerged from the bench to make his Wales debut, setting up Rob Earnshaw's late winner.

He's helped ensure quite a few more goals for his country since then...

    Dafydd Pritchard

Welcome to the Racecourse, the oldest existing stadium to stage international football having hosted Wales’ first home match in March 1877.

Wales haven’t been here since a 3-0 friendly win over Norway in 2008, and tonight they’re back to welcome Trinidad and Tobago for a friendly.

Wrexham’s home ground is also where Ryan Giggs made his debut for Wales’ Under-16s.

“It’s a friendly and I wanted a full house, which it looks like we're going to get rather than having a potentially half-empty stadium,” said the Wales manager.

“And it's a thank you to the fans in the north as well. They've got a game on their doorstep which doesn't happen very often.”

Got any thoughts on what Wales should be aiming to achieve during this European Championship cycle? On the job Ryan Giggs has done so far, or on Joachim Low's decision to brutally cut ties with some of Germany's most experienced faces?

On a side-note, are you a fan of the new Euro 2020 qualifier ball? The dazzling yet slightly square-looking match ball seems to have split opinion so far...

We're now into year two of Ryan Giggs' initial four-year contract as Wales boss, and the Manchester United legend says the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifying campaign will define his reign.

Wales, however, have lost four of their past five matches, taking Giggs' managerial record to three wins, one draw and five defeats.

They finished second in their Nations League group behind Denmark, producing an impressive 4-1 thrashing of the Republic of Ireland in the 45-year-old's first competitive match in charge.

A similarly positive performance tonight would provide a timely confidence boost ahead of Slovakia.

After tonight, Ryan Giggs' side officially begin their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign against Slovakia at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday.

Wales find themselves up against World Cup finalists Croatia in Group E, which also features Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan..

"It could be better, it could be worse," was Ryan Giggs response to the draw, adding "it is masses better" that his side find themselves in one of the five-team groups.

  19. Germany's next generationpublished at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2019

    Germany v Serbia (19:45 GMT)

It'll certainly be interesting to see if any of Germany's youngsters can steal the spotlight as Joachim Low attempts to reboot his squad.

Tonight's starting XI includes Bayer Leverkusen duo Kai Havertz (19) and Julian Brandt (22) and RB Leipzig pair Timo Werner (23) and Lukas Klostermann (22), who could all soon become household names on the international stage.

I wonder if we'll witness a breakthrough night for one or more of those players...

Germany manager Joachim Low watches trainingImage source, Getty Images

There's plenty of interest in tonight's other international friendly, where Joachim Low's Germany embark on a "new start for the German national team".

A dismal World Cup campaign, followed by relegation in the Nations League, has convinced boss Low to announce 2019 will see "a new face" of Die Mannschaft.

And that, he says, means the end for experienced Bayern Munich trio Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller.

Their opening Euro 2020 qualifier comes against the Netherlands on Sunday, but first up for Low's youngsters it's Serbia in Wolfsburg.
