Dusk falls on a glorious day for Manchester City at Wembley, but have we just witnessed the dawn of something special for West Ham.

Remember, the Hammers are just new to the professional game and were plying their trade in the third tier last season before earning a Women's Super League place following the league restructure.

Today, however, belongs to City.

As we mentioned before the game, today's Women's FA Cup final marks the start of BBC Sport's #changethegame women's summer of sport season to celebrate female athletes.

I thought City were dominant, West Ham paid for it in the first half because they didn't keep hold of the ball and fatigue set in - if you spend that amount of time without the ball you're going to get tired especially on a big pitch like this.

City just went about their business very professionally.

City didn't play well in the first half but the best teams find a way to get into their groove and that's exactly what they did.

You could see the tiredness from West Ham in the second half, their defending was different but you still have to credit City.

Georgia Stanway, who scored Manchester City's second goal, has won the player of the match award.

"It's unbelievable," she tells BBC One. "It's an incredible day, everyone wishes to be a part of it and we're just lucky to be here.

"I think I tried too hard at times, but thankfully it came off with the goal."

West Ham striker Jane Ross is currently your pick for player of the match.

This is Man City Women's sixth major trophy, all of which have come in the past five years, and all under Nick Cushing's tenure.

Today, their second Women's FA Cup adds to their three League Cups (2014, 2016 and 2019) and their 2016 Women's Super League title.

Manchester City manager Nick Cushing tells BBC One: "I said at half-time I thought we played the occasion a bit. But we settled down a bit and played the football we've played all year.

"At the start of the year I thought it'd be the closest Women's Super League season ever - we've not lost a game and still not won the title. But we'll look at that and go again."

The ticker tape rains down all around the players. The day is a sky blue one at Wembley.

There is many a hand to be shaken as the Man City players pick up their medals and file past the Women's FA Cup.

Now it's Manchester City's turn to climb those famous steps.

The feeling as they walk past fans will be a very different one. It is smiles all round!

West Ham's players look gutted and exhausted. They gave their all and edged the first half, impressing in their first major final, but they ran out of steam late on.

The West Ham players make their way up the Wembley steps to pick up their runners-up medals, giving the army of Claret and Blue fans high fives and hugs a long the way.

City's quality shone through in the second half. West Ham tired as the game went on but gave a real good account of themselves and had two very good opportunities.

It could have been a different game if they went in at half-time 1-0 up but Manchester City are well deserved winners.

"We didn't really play that well first half, but we've got a group of winners," Man City captain Steph Houghton tells BBC One. "We have people who want to learn and improve and we have a really good blend of youth and experience.

"To come here and lift another trophy for Manchester City is another highlight for me."

Man City players joyfully embrace! They have just completed a domestic cup double.

A well deserved win.

But spare a thought for West Ham, a side that joined the professional ranks of the English game just eight months ago.

It's their first final and they made Man City work for the silverware.
