I think it was wise to withdraw Sam Cosgrove. He was at the heart of everything. He was getting a lot of verbal abuse and he was very fortunate to stay on the park after a challenge just after getting booked. He was on a knife edge.

This game is threatening to boil over again as Killie goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann crashes into Stevie May as he punches a cross clear and the Aberdeen striker flattens home midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu in the process.

It looks like Aberdeen centre-half Scott McKenna and Kilmarnock defender Greg Taylor are both booked after the melee that follows.

    HT: Kilmarnock 0-0 Aberdeen

    Jonathan Sutherland
BBC Sport Scotland at Rugby Park

Just one talking point in the first half - the sending off of Kirk Broadfoot. He was in on goal but failed to control the ball. It looked like he caught the Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis in the face with his boot. Referee Steven McLean was certainly in no doubt as he brandished the red card.

Adding to the drama and hostile atmosphere around that moment was the anger from the Kilmarnock fans when Sam Cosgrove avoided a second booking. But the striker escaped with a talking to from the ref.

Meanwhile, the football has been pretty terrible.

Referee Willie Collum was booed by the home fans as he entered the tunnel for half-time, his decision to send off Lions captain Craig Halkett clearly not appreciated. Was he the last man when he challenged Brad Lyons? Did he get anything on the ball? Hard to tell conclusively without the help of replays.

Bottom club Dundee will be mightily relieved to go in level at the break. St Johnstone have dominated, with Matty Kennedy the main danger man.

Goalkeeper Seny Dieng has kept Dundee in it with some smart saves and manager Jim McIntyre has it all to do as he tries to prevent an eighth successive defeat for the Dark Blues.
