Regardless of whether seventh place will earn Europa League qualification, it is a target which Wolves are keen to confirm. To be the team just behind the so-called big six is impressive, particularly for a side only promoted a year ago.

The nature of that potential achievement is accentuated by Fulham's immediate return to the Championship; they too had high hopes 12 months ago, at the very least of consolidation.

Wanderers' outstanding campaign has been tempered somewhat by a string of surprisingly poor results against the bottom six, and with Fulham having won all three matches since their relegation was confirmed, the hosts may find this fixture a genuine challenge.

Wolves spent around £70m last summer and have since turned Jonny's loan into a permanent £18m deal, as well as agreeing a £32m fee for on-loan forward Raul Jimenez.

But boss Nuno Espirito Santo, channeling his inner Johan Cruyff, insists money doesn't buy you success...

"I never saw a £20 note running on the pitch," he said. "It doesn't have to do with money.

"The more important aspect is what you have before, the squad and the spirit you have and ethic of work.

"Someone who comes then finds a routine and philosophy and just has to get along. "This is the best way. It is about the way we work and the way the players commit themselves.

"Since day one everyone here has competed for the whole process of the team and I still believe we can improve.

"It is an idea, we work this way and it is our model of our squad and training. We made our decisions."

Manuel Pellegrini has called this a transition season for West Ham, but it's still one in which they can finish in the top half of the table - something they haven't managed in either of the last two campaigns.

One of the major frustrations for Pellegrini will be that the Hammers have shown they can perform against the big guns, but have been hit and miss when facing teams lower down the table.

Southampton arrive fresh from securing Premier League safety after an impressive haul of 29 points from 21 games since Ralph Hasenhuttl took over.

It's not just results that have picked up under Hasenhuttl either, with the Saints good to watch as well. Their fans can be optimistic about next season.

Manuel Pellegrini makes three big changes to his West Ham side from last weekend's win over Spurs. Out of the entire matchday squad go Declan Rice, Robert Snodgrass and Felipe Anderson, with Manuel Lanzini, Pedro Obiang and Grady Diangana coming in to the starting 11.

Wolves could move a step close to wrapping up the 'best of the rest' title and a potential European spot if they beat Fulham at home.

Everton kept themselves in the hunt with a 2-0 victory over Burnley last night, while Watford visit Chelsea tomorrow and Leicester go to Manchester City on Monday.

Seventh could still mean a spot in next season's Europa League - if Manchester City beat Watford in the FA Cup final.

This week Lawro is up against golfer Tommy Fleetwood, who is hosting the British Masters next week at the Hillside club in his home town of Southport.

"Being from Southport, you are either Red or Blue, and support Liverpool or Everton," Fleetwood said. "I was much more drawn to Everton, which I am happy about!

"So, I have been an Everton fan all my life, and that is the way it has stuck. We have not had much success over the years, but I love the club, the fans and the atmosphere - and how up and down we are.

"It has been a lot like that again this year but you can see the team starting to bed in under Marco Silva.

"It was always going to take time but football is so fickle these days because you always seem to be two or three games away from being the best manager in the league, or getting the sack."

Fulham may be heading back to the Championship, but the Cottagers received a boost this week with the news club captain Tom Cairney has signed a new contract.

"I want to stay for a long time, and hopefully finish my career here," the midfielder told Fulhamfctv.

"This place feels like home. I don't think you can put a price on happiness, and your life off the pitch as well, and I can't see myself anywhere else.

"I feel like I've got unfinished business. I want to stay here and I want to get the club back to the Premier League.

"I want to bounce straight back next season. I know how hard the Championship is, but knowing our owners and how ambitious the club is, I'm sure we'll give it a good go."
