Cardiff manager Neil Warnock on striker Emiliano Sala, who died in a plane crash in January: "We worked really hard for two months to get the lad signed, that puts it into perspective - yes, we've got relegated, but life is far more important.

"You can't plan for something like that and I didn't think it would affect the players in the way it did.

"I did think he would score 10 or 15 goals, he was the type we needed. It wasn't to be."

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock, speaking to Match of the Day: "They (the fans) knew when I took over the club was in a mess, it's been reborn - everybody is singing from the same hymn sheet.

"They know we've given it our best. We had some great chances in the second half.

"The Chelsea result killed us, that night in the dressing room. It was really low that night, they have kept fighting so I have no complaints.

"The problems we have had to put up with throughout the season, I have nothing but praise for everybody. It makes such a difference when you hear the crowd."

  4. 'We've fallen short today and over the season'published at 20:01 British Summer Time 4 May 2019

    Cardiff 2-3 Crystal Palace

    Cardiff City

Cardiff City's Sean Morrison speaking to Match of the Day: "Crystal Palace's front four is fantastic, we knew we'd be left a bit open today. We tried not to push too hard too soon but they hit us on the counter a few times.

"We always felt we had a chance but it just wasn't to be today, another day a couple of them would go in but it's been like that all season - it just hasn't been our year.

"We would've loved to have taken it to the last day. We've fallen short today and over the season and we're relegated because we didn't do enough over the year. We've lacked a bit of quality but we've always bounced back. Hopefully we can bounce back again.

"The fans have been incredible, every year gets better and better, they're as proud of us as I am and they can see the effort we've put in. I'm sure they're disappointed but to hear them cheering like that is nice to hear."

Kieran Knight: Very harsh to say Cardiff went down with a whimper. They beat Leicester, Wolves and West Ham who will all finish with 49+ points. If they can secure Arter on a permanent, I'd be confident they'd make the play offs next season.

Sean Turner: They were always favourites for the drop, but they go down having given it everything while Brighton survive being accused of a lack of ambition. Football, eh?

  9. Hodgson wants improved home formpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 4 May 2019

    Crystal Palace

More from Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to Match of the Day: "We scored three good goals and created some good opportunities aside from that - their goalkeeper made some outstanding blocks. It's never easy coming to a team fighting for their lives once your own safety is secured. We showed some good quality."

On difference between away form and home form: "Away from home it's been different, we've taken our chances much better, scored some very good goals and we do find when we play away from home that the game opens up more. Teams have shown respect to us this year and don't leave many gaps. We still believe Selhurst Park is an excellent ground to have as a home ground and I hope next season we get as many home points as we manage to get away."

  10. 'Our quality was very good'published at 19:43 British Summer Time 4 May 2019

    Cardiff 2-3 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to BT Sport: "We created a lot of chances, it's a bit disappointing it was as close as it was as we should have been out of sight - Cardiff are always dangerous.

"It was not a walk in the park but sometimes the quality of our football was really very good and had we got the goal life would have been easier - winning matches in the Premier League is a source of great satisfaction and certainly I feel we have every right to celebrate after winning this game today.

"We do consider ourselves a team that can finish between eight and 14, maybe closer to eight - but we have to win some home games for that. Our chance-taking hasn't been anywhere near good enough."

On Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka: "Both are players contracted to us and both we want to continue to work with and strengthen around them. We will work very hard in the off-season to try and make sure we provide the fans with a few fresh faces."

    Cardiff 2-3 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Andros Townsend speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a good performance for us, we made one or two mistakes defensively but we got away with it with the quality in the final third. We knew if we got ahead and stayed patient the game would come to us with the attacking players we've got. We got away with it today and got the three points.

"I've been below par the last few weeks so it was nice to contribute today. Hopefully I can do it again and end the season on a high.

"Away from home we've been clinical and taken our chances, at home I think teams are looking to frustrate us but if we want to be a good side we're going to have to find ways around that if we are to improve next season."

Matt Lewis: Never nice being the team that relegates another side. Cardiff have had a tough season, and the game today was typical of that; moments of inspiration but not quite good enough in front of goal, and Palace punished them for it. Good luck next year.

It was a difficult game. As soon as Palace scored Cardiff's heads went down and they didn't really believe they could go on to win this game. And even though Reid got a goal back near the end, Palace were comfortable winners.
