More from Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as he struggles to hide his frustration at Allan McGregor's red card in the dying moments.

The keeper will miss next week's derby against Celtic after the club's ninth sending off of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he says: "I’m running out of ideas for what to do. It’s not good enough. So the players need to improve it and again I’ll try and address it. We spoke to the players just before I came out here now, but I’m not sure the exact number - I think it’s around nine red cards - it’s not acceptable. It’s not good enough.

“Listen, Allan McGregor has been one of our best players all season. He was in the running for player of the season and rightly so. Again, you see the reason why he’s highly rated as a goalkeeper because he pulled off a world class save to get us three points. But then it’s another crazy moment that’s difficult to defend.

"I think he’ll be frustrated because he loves playing in the Old Firm games. So he’ll be frustrated. For me, I won’t be able to pick a goalkeeper that has been so consistent. It’s frustration all round. When we should be talking about five wins out of five and winning without playing well. Because many, many managers that have come before me tend to say that’s always a good sign.”

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is in an unforgiving mood, telling Sky Sports that a rather lacklustre and ill-discplined second-half performance against Hibs was the perfect example of why his side haven't challenged for major honours this season.

“Obviously, winning when you don’t play well is a good sign in the big picture," he says. "But if you sum up the whole 90 minutes I think that’s the reason why we haven’t been more competitive for the main prizes this year. Because the performance over the 90 minutes was average at best and a lack of discipline - not just in the individual case but across the season - has hurt us a lot as well this season. That’s the reason why we’re not in the running for a cup or the league.

“There’s a lot of different aspects about us were we need to improve to put up a better challenge. Of course there is. But today it was quite clear that we were at 70-80% at best. And again another crazy bit of discipline which hasn’t damaged us today because we’ve managed to win the game and get over the line, but it’ll probably hurt us in the next couple of games."

Paul Heckingbottom then adds: "When we're winning the ball back we should be creating a lot more chances from them so it's the final pass and the final little bit of quality that creates that chance is what we're missing."

A frustrated Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom tells Sky Sports: "I thought for half an hour we were really good, we won the ball in really good areas. We knew playing in Rangers' half would stretch us and if they get through us playing good football then fair enough. We were positive but we didn't create enough chances and that's kind of been the story."

What about Hibs? The visitors were pretty dire but they had a golden chance to sneak a leveller when Florian Kamberi failed to beat Allan McGregor from close range.

The substitute was only six yards out as he met a high, looping ball but his side-foot effort was timid, although it was still a great save. I guess he was making sure he got it on target but he really needed to get more on the shot.

Hibs now face Kilmarnock and Aberdeen and manager Paul Heckingbottom might want to take a look at some of his younger players now Europe is out of reach.

Man of the match Steven Davis tells Sky Sports: "I think it's important that we try finish the season as strong as possible. We spoke about that before the game. In the second half we didn't quite get as much of the ball as we would've hoped but overall I think we have to be happy with the performance."

Rangers stand-in goalie Ross McCrorie tells Sky Sports: "It's a new experience for me but the gaffer said because my brother's a keeper I could maybe have some experience from him and I fairly enjoyed it. There will definitely be banter not just from my brother but from the whole team."

What a crazy end to one of the dullest 45 minutes you'll ever see... Allan McGregor made a fantastic save to deny Florian Kamberi a late equaliser and then moments later the keeper is sent off for aiming a kick at Marc McNulty.

Then we had a corner that was interrupted by a fan throwing a ball on the pitch - and Hibs did not contest the drop ball in the Rangers penalty area. What were they thinking?

Hibs could not test Ross McCrorie after the midfielder took over in goals, with Alfredo Morelos missing two great chances at the other end in stoppage time, the second a wonderful stop from Ofir Marciano.

Breathless stuff!

Corner to Hibs... Pile it on the makeshift keeper, surely? Stevie Mallan's delivery is rubbish but he'll get to take it again as a fan throws another ball on the pitch. No, it's a drop ball and Rangers hoof it clear!

Where did that other ball come from? And why did Hibs just let Rangers clear?

Rangers have used all their subs, so Ross McCrorie is putting on the gloves. His brother is a goalie, so maybe he's got some moves... Real drama in the dying moments of this previously drab second half!
