Dwight Gayle's red card reduces their chances dramatically. He is the man for Albion, especially at home. They'll be without him now and it's going to be a massive ask.

Looking ahead to Tuesday's second leg, Conor Hourihane adds:

"We won't be going there for a draw. We'll go in to it like any other game, trying to win it."

Speaking about Jack Grealish, Villa goalscorer Conor Hourihane tells Sky Sports:

"Jack's the best player in the league in my opinion. He's got so much quality. He's probably too good for the league."

I don't think it was a great Villa performance, Albion's game plan for 60 minutes worked perfectly.

All of a sudden, Conor Hourihane scores a great goal and Tammy Abraham did exactly what was needed from him.

Villa midfielder Jack Grealish tells Sky Sports: "Every time I come on the pitch, I look at the players around me and I think we're going to win.

"It's a good win. But West Brom are a great side and we know it's going to be a hostile atmosphere at The Hawthorns on Tuesday.

"[This] is a Premier League club. We had the pain last year. Hopefully we can go one step further and go to the Premier League."

It was a cracking game, overall. All the physicality that you'd expect from a local derby, with flashes of quality that you'd expect from two top-six sides.

It's advantage Aston Villa. If they avoid defeat at The Hawthorns on Tuesday, they'll be into the Championship play-off final at Wembley on 27 May.

Great feet from Tammy Abraham and then good skill from Jack Grealish present Andre Green with a chance in the area, but he fires just wide.

Villa keep pressing.

This is the 170th meeting between these two teams in all competitions. Villa won 77 of the previous 169, with the Baggies enjoying 55 victories.

The hosts are around two minutes away from getting their 78th, and surely one of their most important.

After good hold-up play from Villa striker Tammy Abraham, Conor Hourihane has another left-footed shot from the edge of the box, but this one is blocked.

Jonathan Kodjia replaces Anwar El Ghazi for stoppage time in this first leg.

Villa pair Tyrone Mings and Anwar El Ghazi are both being treated for knocks, as seven minutes of added time are signalled. Yes, SEVEN.

That is a stupid sending-off for me. That could kill Albion off because they'll be without him in the second leg and they're not half the side without him.

This could be massive. Dwight Gayle is off and he'll miss the second leg, while West Brom are already without suspended forward Hal Robson-Kanu.

Gayle - who has been living dangerously in this second half - is shown a second yellow for sliding in late on Villa keeper Jed Steer as he tried to get on the end of a cross.

Those two quick goals from Villa have turned this first leg on it's head.

Tammy Abraham's 26th of the season could yet prove to be his biggest goal for Villa.

But West Brom won't be too disheartened by a one-goal away defeat if it stays like this, with 90 minutes to come at The Hawthorns. It's still on a knife edge.

Why anyone should be surprised that this game might have a dramatic sting in the tale is beyond me!

But, even by the standards of this crazy Championship season, there have not been many more dramatic three minutes' worth of action than that.

Conor Hourihane's stunning strike, followed so quickly by Tammy Abraham's commendable coolness from the spot, under the added pressure of the home fans chanting his name as he stepped up to take it.

Is there still more to come though?
