While Rovers have had far more possession, Newport are the brighter side and look more of a goal threat.

Perhaps we should not be surprised the Exiles are on the front foot, because perhaps they are concerned fatigue could play a factor as the match wears on.

This is Newport's 62nd game of the 2018-19 season and only Europa League finalists Chelsea eclipse that number, with Wednesday their 63rd match of the season.

Yes, Newport like getting the ball in the box - but they're about more than that.

They're playing the ball around very nicely in midfield right now, with Tranmere struggling to get a real foothold in the game.

Newport are playing some nice stuff down the right, Josh Sheehan and Robbie Willmott getting some joy.

But Newport defenders close him down quickly enough to force him to put it over.

Michael Flynn's tie is incredibly short - I'd have been told off in school if it was seen at that length.

The Newport manager is deep in conversation with a member of his coaching team.

He should be fairly pleased with what he's seen so far.

Jamille Matt is not very far from getting on the end of that Newport free-kick!

Connor Jennings clearly isn't nervous!

The Tranmere midfielder sees it open up for him and he has a dig from all of 30 yards, his shot deflecting into the hands of Newport keeper Joe Day.

At the other end Jamille Matt attempts a shot and though it hits Sid Nelson's hand, a foul is already given against the Newport frontman.

Mickey Demetriou is next to launch a long throw into the Tranmere box - Newport are keen to get it in the mixer whenever they can.

It comes to nothing but Jamille Matt is a big target for the Welsh side.

A nervy start for Tranmere, who almost inadvertently put the ball out for a corner before conceding a needless throw-in.

Dan Butler lobs it into the box for Newport but Jamille Matt's header is well off-target.

It's 22 degrees in north-west London and on a notoriously large Wembley pitch - at the end of a long, arduous season - you wonder how big a part fitness may have to play in this final.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this one go the distance, either.
