We'll be back for the first leg of the Premiership play-off on Thursday as Dundee United and St Mirren slog it out for a place at the top table next season.

Dundee will be playing Championship football next season and stand-in boss James McPake wants the responsibility of trying to bring them back up.

After today's defeat by St Mirren, he tells BBC Scotland: "Of course I want it. Am I ready? Who knows. I’ve been lucky in the sense that when I got injured I did my coaching badges, which the club helped me with, and I’ve had experience of coaching a lot of games.

“I love this football club. When are you ever ready?."

On their future in the second-tier, he adds: “We’ve got to get it right. We’re in a situation this season when we’ve been used to losing games and if you do that in the Championship you won’t come back up. So that needs to flip.

“We believe we belong in the Premiership. This season has been a disaster but we can’t have a hangover. We can’t go down there and feel sorry for ourselves as a club. The fans won’t let us do that, they will back us."

Prior to kick-off, Berwick Rangers' chairman in-waiting John Bell admits: "It’s a very uncomfortable situation to be in".

What about next season? No one is coming up from the 16-team Lowland League after all.

"We face relegation to the Lowland League," he says. "We’re prepared for it but it’s not a place we want to be, with no disrespect to the league as there’s some good teams in there and a lot of competition so it’s going to be just as tough as staying in the SPFL League Two.

"Either way, we’re going to have to pull our socks up and change things for the better."

Cove Rangers are now 5-0 up on aggregate against Berwick Rangers thanks to Jamie Masson, so that one looks well and truly done and dusted.

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney is looking at a play-off final with Dundee United now and is heartened by a run of six games unbeaten.

"We set out to win two football matches this week and that's what we did," he tells BBC Sportsound. "We've done all we could do but it wasn't in our hands.

"We are in a good place as a club. The last few months, we've been on a really good run, our best form of the season.

"United are a good side and we look forward to a big couple of games. There is so much at stake and with it being over two legs that can sometimes alter the psyche."

Hamilton full-back Ziggy Gordon scored the first goal this afternoon but could well be on his way again after confirming that he's been in talks with Dinamo Bucharest.

"I signed up to do a job and I'm so pleased we managed to keep the team up," says Gordon, who is in his second spell with the Accies.

"I loved my time in Poland and I had to come back but I've always wanted to go back out and try something different."

“It feels fantastic," Hamilton Academical manager Brian Rice tells BBC Sportsound: "This is what we thrive on - being the underdogs. It’s a massive result for us, absolutely massive.

“My philosophy is defend by attacking and I think the boys enjoy that. I want to see them enjoying themselves.

“I think the fans appreciated what the players give. The fans got right behind us. We got them out their seats at times. It’s something that I want to bring to this club.

“First and foremost, Martin Canning did a terrific job here, fantastic. I came in and was asked to carry it on, try and keep us in the league. We've done that.

"By tomorrow morning, we start again and we look forward to next season. I look forward to trying to build a squad that hopefully doesn't have us in this position every single season. We don’t want to be the first name on people’s lips when they’re talking about relegation and play-offs and all that.

"There'll be changes in the summer. I want to get the age of the squad down a bit. I've got some really talented young kids, there needs to be a pathway for them here at Hamilton.”

"It's been another good season," St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright tells BBC Sportsound. "We've got over 50 points. But it's performances like that that have cost us a top six place, we had five or six days like that.

"There won't be big changes, we don't need that. We've just need a few tweaks. My main priority is a striker. If I can find that striker who gets us 15 goals that can get us into the top six."

As he hangs up his football boots for the last time, Hamilton captain Dougie Imrie admits it's tough to say goodbye.

"It's an emotional day for myself, but first and foremost great for the club to win today and keep their place in the Premiership for next season," he says.

"It's been an emotional last few weeks with the games going up and down. I always thought it would go down to the last game of the season. But the guys were fantastic and another year in the Premiership for the club."

The club skipper - who made his 500th appearance for Accies in March - had tears in his eyes speaking to BBC Scotland.

The former Clyde, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, St Mirren and Greenock Morton midfielder adds: "I've had a great career. I can only thank the clubs, the managers, the players, the fans that I've played for and the fans I've played against for the great times and banter.

"I'm proud of the career I've had and I'll look back in the years to come but first it's on to pastures new, into coaching and I've got that to look forward to.

"But it's a sad day giving up playing."

Hamilton Accies are now looking foward to a sixth successive season in the top flight.

Chairman Allan Maitland tells BBC Sportsound: "We have a model to bring kids through at this club and that has to be the way forward.

"We are there on merit. We have sold a lot of good players over the years and every time we find replacements.

"There will be a lot of changes but that's natural for this club at this time of year. We need to find players who will fit into Brian Rice's way of playing."

It looks like time up for Berwick Rangers in League Two after a 4-0 thumping in Aberdeen last weekend.

What league will Scotland's only English side be in next season? It would take a major upset to deny Cove Rangers their first appearance in the senior set-up.

It promises to be a tense afternoon at Broadwood, with Annan Athletic taking on the Bully Wee with a one-goal lead.

St Mirren or Dundee United will be in the Championship next season and it looks like Queen of the South are going to stay in the second tier.
