  2. 'We expect to win' - Neilsonpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

Dundee United head coach Robbie Neilson says it's down to his team to take advantage of the expected sell-out home crowd tonight.

"It's Tannadice, we've got a full house, we're expected to win the game and we expect to go and win it," Neislon tells Sportsound. "It's going to be very difficult, but we want to take a lead down there to give us some sort of advantage.

"It's a massive game for everyone. We're hoping that we sell it out tonight, the fans have been great and we just need to make sure we put on a performance and send them home happy."

  3. Two in-form sidespublished at 19:32 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

They would have preferred it to have arrived earlier, and lasted longer, but both sides have hit a bit of form at what they will hope is just the right moment.

United have won five of their last six matches, losing once - away to Greenock Morton in their final league game after the title had been won by Ross County.

Robbie Neilson's side are looking for a fourth consecutive home win and tasted victory over tonight's visitors in their only meeting this season - United leaving Paisley with a 2-1 Scottish Cup win in February.

However, Oran Kearney's Buddies have become a more dangerous and cohesive beast since then and are unbeaten in six outings, which includes an unbeaten four-match run away from home.

  5. Terrors on way up - Reynoldspublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

Mark Reynolds is on loan with Dundee United from Aberdeen but is so confident that the Terrors will soon be back challenging with the Dons in the top six of the Premiership that the centre-half has agreed a three-year contract to make his switch permanent this summer.

The Dons never plummeted out of the top flight, but the 32-year-old former Scotland squad member sees the same building blocks being put in place that took them out of the misery felt by three consecutive ninth-place finishes when he joined them seven years ago.

  6. 'Neilson one of best young coaches in UK'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

Dundee United sporting director Tony Asghar has been giving head coach Robbie Neilson the vote of confidence on Sportsound regardless of the result of this tie, describing him as one of the "best young coaches in the UK".

"I think [owner] Mark Ogren and the board have faith in Robbie and the players have faith in Robbie," Ashgar says. "I don't foresee any talk like that at all and part of the sporting director's role is to make sure we don't have a knee jerk reaction when things don't go well.

"When we came in in January, the plan was to try to get promotion, we're now a very small distance away from trying to achieve that objective. It's huge for us all."

  7. Same again for Unitedpublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

Dundee United manager Robbie Neilson stays faithful to the starting line-up that defeated Inverness Caley Thistle 3-0 on Friday to complete an aggregate win.

It means Calum Butcher, the midfielder who was sent off in United's 2-1 win over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup in February, misses out again with a groin injury.

  8. MacKenzie returns, Cooke startspublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

Defender Gary MacKenzie has recovered from the head knock suffered against Hamilton Academical that forced him to miss Saturday's win over Dundee.

But striker Simeon Jackson misses out again with a hamstring strain and Cody Cooke starts up front after his hat trick as a substitute at Dens Park.

On-loan Rangers defender Lee Hodson also comes into the side.

Forward Danny Mullen drops to the bench along with former Croatia Under-21 defender Mateo Muzek, while on-loan Blackburn Rovers midfielder Brad Lyons misses out.

St Mirren reported that they had almost sold their allocation by Tuesday.

They have been playing at a better level all season. They have taken a few defeats, but recently they have had some good results. However, it is very close to call and it could go to penalties in Sunday's second leg

  12. Dundee double for Buddies?published at 19:10 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

St Mirren are looking for Dundee double.

Finishing second bottom not only ensured that the city's Dark Blues suffered automatic relegation, but the Buddies finished their season by rubbing it in with a 3-2 win at Dens Park on Saturday.

However, Cody Cooke's hat-trick - his first league goals of the season - was not quite enough to save his side from finishing second bottom after Hamilton Academical won at home to St Johnstone.

  16. Promotion versus avoiding relegationpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

Dundee United v St Mirren (19:45)

The long-drawn-out process that is the Scottish Premiership Play-offs is reaching its final stages as Dundee United host St Mirren in the first leg of the final tonight.

For United, the goal is promotion, having got here by finishing runners-up to Ross County in the Championship title race then beating third-placed Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their two-leg semi-final.

For St Mirren, it was more straightforward as they look to avoid relegation after finishing second bottom in the top flight.

Stay with us for all the build-up, match commentary and post-match reaction from Tannadice Park here on the BBC Sport website and on BBC Radio Scotland 810MW.
