First shot is DR Congo's. A headed clearance lands to Tresor Mputu outside the box and the veteran hits a sweet first-time volley which is saved by Mohamed El Shenawy.

A good run by Egypt's Mahmoud Trezeguet to cut in from the left but he runs out of steam in the box. For a moment it looked set to be a repeat of his goal against Zimbabwe.

DR Congo coach Florent Ibenge: "Losing the first match was difficult for us, but we have to forget that now. We resumed our training and are focused on our match which is very important.

"Against Uganda we made some mistakes and we were not competitive enough to win. We worked on our defects.

"Egypt is a different match and we will have a new strategy as we need to win. It’s going to be a very difficult game for us but we will do our best.

"We will play to have the best result despite the fact that Egypt is playing at home. We will not adopt a defensive method because we want to qualify."

Egypt coach Javier Aguirre: "We are ready to face DR Congo. All the players are ready physically and technically.

"We respect DR Congo much and have done our homework studying them. Our target is the three points to qualify to the next round. Against Zimbabwe we had many chances but only scored once. We are working on correcting our mistakes.

"DR Congo could have done more in their first game, same for us against Zimbabwe. I hope we could have a better performance.

"We are a team and we don’t rely on a single play."

Egypt made a winning start against Zimbabwe on Friday but the hosts will be looking to improve on their opening-day performance in Cairo.

The Pharaohs dominated for large spells but failed to trouble Zimbabwe goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda on a regular basis.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was uncharacteristically profligate, missing the target with a number of promising opportunities prior to Mahmoud Trezeguet's winner.

DR Congo lost their opener 2-0 as Uganda claimed their first Africa Cup of Nations win in 41 years.

  8. 'Warda decision could affect Egypt'published at 20:49 British Summer Time 26 June 2019

Egypt v DR Congo (21:00 BST)

BBC Arabic sports reporter Sarah Mohsen: "Ihab Leheta, the Egyptian national team’s director said that he has received videos this morning related to Amr Warda, the Egyptian player.

"And in turn he sent it to Egypt’s coach Javier Aguirre and in a few minutes the decision was made. The player was dismissed from the squad over these videos.

"The allegations are not confirmed yet, and the video is not verified. On the other side, Warda denied these allegations saying he’s not the person portrayed in the video.

"So, Egypt is now down to 22 players and this could affect the Egyptian team on the technical side. Today’s match is critical. The players have to be prepared physically and mentally to advance from the group stage."

In dramatic scenes, Egypt sent midfielder Amr Warda home this morning for disciplinary reasons.

The 25-year-old, who plays for Greek club PAOK, was withdrawn "to maintain discipline, commitment and concentration" - according to Egypt's FA.

"Social media conversations between Warda and many women were released after Egypt's game against Zimbabwe," said BBC Arabic reporter Mohamed Qoutb.

The 25-year-old was used as a substitute in their opening game.
