Summary

  • First ever Premier League meeting between sides

  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 54 mins

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester City

David McGoldrick and Callum Robinson are off.

The legendary Billy Sharp and record signing Oliver McBurnie are on. Big roars.

  2. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester City

Leicester show Sheffield United what they are about on the break as Ayoze Perez runs over the halfway line to feed James Maddison out right. He crosses deep, Jamie Vardy heads across goal and Perez meets it on the volley.

His effort dribbles across goal as the angle is against him but the home side were ripped open there.

  3. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester City

Oliver Norwood boots Youri Tielemans in the chest. He was going for the ball to be fair and holds his hands up straight away. Tielemans is up though with a grimace on his face and Leicester launch an attack from the dead ball.

James Maddison gets into the box, takes a touch and hits left footed... super block by John Egan as he slides at the attacker's feet bravely.

  4. Postpublished at 46 mins

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester City

Enda Stevens gets the ball down the left, takes a touch and crosses. It deflects, which can often cause mayhem, but there again is Caglar Soyuncu to head out of his box.

    A man mountain so far.

  7. Count on Caglar...published at 15:59 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester

No player on the pitch has had more touches or played more passes than Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu. He's also won possession back more than any other man out there.

More of the same and the away side will have a hell of a chance of a shut out.

  8. He don't need no ball...published at 15:52 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester

Jamie Vardy only had eight touches in the opening 45 minutes. No player saw such little ball. No other player scored though.

Make them count Jamie, make them count.

So far this is the defining image. You'd have to say Leicester deserve it as they've just edged things without creating anything huge. A minute of added time to come before Chris Wilder can come up with a way to out-fox the Foxes after the break.

The home side win a corner, up come the artillery, deep corner to the back stick and Jack O'Connell makes a right dog's dinner of it to head over.

    There's the whistle folks.

  11. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Sheffield United 0-1 Leicester City

I've been massively impressed with Hamza Choudhury so far for Leicester. Anytime he sniffs a loose ball he's in there.

Caglar Soyuncu has also impressed in the old Harry Maguire hole. He headed wide of his own goal as Sheffield United players got ready to throw themselves at the ball moments after the Leicester goal.

  12. 'Boo me all you like'published at 15:39 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

Vardy was waiting for the moment where he could stand in front of the Kop End and say 'hey, boo me all you like, I am not bothered'.

GOAL - Sheffield United 0-1 Leicesterpublished at 38 mins

    Jamie Vardy

    The boyhood Sheffield Wednesday fan...

Ayoze Perez robs Chris Basham on halfway, James Maddison pounces to send Jamie Vardy into the space Basham has left and the striker needs no invitation here as he races clear, steadies himself and lashes left footed, high into the net.

He puts his hands to his ears and asks for more boos from the Sheffield United masses.

  14. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Leicester City

Leicester win a first corner and James Maddison swings it in only for Sheffield United to hold firm.

Both managers may well ask for just a little more care from their lads in possession after the break.

A host of loose balls lead to a host of 50-50 tackles and these Blades fans love it. Up out of their seats roaring as their team pin the away side back.

This is a good old scrap and you do sense there's a goal in it at some stage.

  16. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Sheffield United 0-0 Leicester City

James Maddison takes a deep breath as he stands over a beautifully placed free-kick some 30 yards out. This is right in his range and he goes for it, only to hit the top of the wall.

Big noise from the home fans as Jamie Vardy is flagged offside. No room for the boyhood Owl here.

  17. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Sheffield United 0-0 Leicester City

Some 27 minutes have passed and just one touch in the Leicester area for the home side so far.

They are getting the ball wide and again, Enda Stevens gets it out left only for his low cross to be hacked away.

In comes another cross from the left and waiting on the edge of the area is George Baldock to volley first time. Straight at the keeper. That would have been spectacular.

  18. 'Sheff Utd are playing well'published at 15:26 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

    Sheffield Utd 0-0 Leicester

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on Final Score

Leicester are bossing possession as you would probably expect. Sheffield United are quite happy to let the bigger teams keep the ball. We saw that last weekend. But the hosts are playing really well, looking strong again. It's going to be interesting to see who comes out on top.

  19. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Sheffield United 0-0 Leicester City

We see one of the over-lapping central defenders go forward for the home side as Chris Basham goes down the right. Leicester know if they can nick the ball when this happens there'll be room on the break and Hamza Choudhury tries everything to win a loose ball but the home side scamper to ensure there can be no counter-attack. Close...

  20. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Sheffield United 0-0 Leicester City

Leicester again look to build and knock the ball across their back line. Sheffield United have their block in their own half and they repel the move. Leicester get it back again and the ball gets recycled and moved with little end product. The pattern continues, I don't think either side will be too unhappy.
