Grant McCann is the happier of the two new bosses on show at the Liberty Stadium, with his Hull side in front thanks to Daniel Batty's early goal.

Swansea have had plenty of territory since falling behind, but they have been short on attacking threat so far.

As a result, Swans head coach Steve Cooper is much more animated than opposite number McCann.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Wigan 0-1 Cardiff

We quite possibly have our first yellow card shown to an EFL manager this season.

Wigan boss Paul Cook has been booked for his angry reaction to that penalty apply.

    Tempers are already being tested!

  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Wigan 0-1 Cardiff

Wigan look to reply straight away but Aden Flint just gets in the way of everything.

On this occasion he almost has his Cardiff side in trouble, as Joe Garner's volley strikes him very close to the hand.

But it's from a short distance and the referee waves appeals away.

  6. goal

GOAL: Wigan 0-1 Cardiffpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Joe Ralls (20 mins)

Wigan had been the better side but keeper David Marshall can't hold Leandro Bacuna's shot and the rebound falls to Joe Ralls to finish.

It's a neat half-volley and Cardiff have the lead.

  7. goal

GOAL: Brentford 0-1 Birminghampublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Kristian Pedersen (18 mins)

  8. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Barnsley 1-0 Fulham

Barnsley have Scott Parker's Fulham on the ropes.

The Tykes want a penalty for a handball but as play continues, German winger Mike-Steven Bahre sees a strike beaten away by Marcus Bettinelli.

  9. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Wigan 0-0 Cardiff

All EFL followers know how much of a beast Aden Flint is, and he's settled right in at new club Cardiff.

Josh Windass' cross is met by the head of Joe Garner, but centre-back Flint is there to head off the line.

    Wigan are knocking.

  10. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Brentford 0-0 Birmingham

Brentford have started lively at Griffin Park - Sergi Canos has the first chance of the game but his snap shot is just wide of the post.

Birmingham can't seem to get out of their own half so far.

GOAL: Barnsley 1-0 Fulhampublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Luke Thomas (13 mins)

Fulham have the firepower but have they sorted that leaky defence that saw them relegated from the Premier League?

They trail at newly promoted Barnsley as Luke Thomas gets past his man, darts into the area and finds the bottom corner.

A fine goal and Oakwell erupts!

An assist to start the season for Hull's Kamil Grosicki.

  13. CLOSE!published at 15:13 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Wigan 0-0 Cardiff

Neil Warnock's Cardiff are much-fancied for an instant return to the Premier League, but they're on the back foot here!

Former Bluebirds winger Anthony Pilkington almost gets on the end of Antonee Robinson's cross as Wigan chase an opener.

Cardiff also have Joe Ralls in the book already.

  14. Plymouth and Port Vale with early goalspublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    League Two

Plymouth lead Crewe through Callum McFadzean and Port Vale are a goal to the good against Colchester United through a Top Pope penalty.

  15. goal

GOAL: Stoke 0-1 QPRpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Jordan Hugill (8 mins)

QPR have certainly woken up now!

It's an error from Stoke's England keeper Jack Butland who doesn't get to Bright Osayi-Samuel's cross, allowing on-loan striker Jordan Hugill to score.

The visitors are ahead from their first attack.

  16. Postpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Stoke 0-0 QPR

QPR need to get their heads in the game, fast.

A loose ball at the back lets Sam Vokes in and visiting keeper Joe Lumley rushes out to smother the ball and bail out his defence.

Stoke - under Nathan Jones - should be a much better side this season.

  17. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Barnsley 0-0 Fulham

With the likes of Alexsandar Mitrovic, Anthony Knockaert and Ivan Cavaleiro in their ranks Fulham shouldn't be short of goals on their return to the Championship.

They've already had an opening at newly promoted Barnsley, Mitrovic striking over from Aboubakar Kamara's pass.

  18. goal

Dream start for new Hull boss Grant McCann at Swansea as the Tigers score the Championship's first goal of the day.

  20. Life after McBurnie beginspublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 3 August 2019

    Swansea 0-0 Hull

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at the Liberty Stadium

Swansea City start life after Oli McBurnie, who joined Sheffield United this week, by handing Borja his first start for the club since January 2017.

With Dan James also gone, Swansea need some attacking inspiration from somewhere - and Borja gets the chance to stake a claim.

Signed for a whopping £15.5m in 2016, the striker scored just one goal in his first season at the Liberty and has spent the last two campaigns on loan in his native Spain.

Could this be his moment to shine? New Swans boss Steve Cooper must hope so.
