    FT: Celtic 5-0 Nomme Kalju

The second leg is in Tallin next Tuesday and Celtic boss Neil Lennon could probably get the boots back on for that one if he fancied, given his side's handsome lead.

Tomorrow, we have Europa League action with Aberdeen in Georgia against Chikhura Sachkere, while Rangers host old foes Progres Niederkorn, looking to avenge their infamous humbling of 2017.

Good night and thanks for your company...

  2. No change to Tierney situation - Lennonpublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

    FT: Celtic 5-0 Nomme Kalju

When asked if Arsenal's interest in Celtic defender Kieran Tierney was absolutely dead, Neil Lennon replies: "I've no idea."

The Premier League club have had two bids for Tierney rejected.

"You never say never on anything really," Lennon adds. "I’ve not been told any different from the two bids that have been rejected."

  3. Griffiths 'a natural-born goalscorer' - Lennonpublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

    FT: Celtic 5-0 Nomme Kalju

Celtic manager Neil Lennon on BBC Radio Scotland: "I enjoyed the goals and great attacking play. The players really expressed themselves, which is a great indicator so early in the season. It’s a brilliant performance and a brilliant win."

On Leigh Griffiths' excellent first-half free-kick, Lennon added: "You always think he'll hit the target or make the goalkeeper make a save.

"It’s a great skill he has, he’s a natural-born goalscorer. You can see he’s still a little bit short in his conditioning but the reception he got last week and then tonight should mean the world to him. It’s great he’s got the season off with a goal."

  4. Halkett the hero for Heartspublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

    Scottish League Cup

Hearts survived a scare at Tynecastle to take over at the top of Group A. Stenhousemuir defended doggedly and then stunned the home fans when Mark McGuigan shot them into a 77th-minute lead.

Craig Halkett was then thrown up front as the desperate hosts piled on the pressure and the tactic worked a treat, with the defender scoring twice in the final eight minutes.

"We had to work far too hard, we missed so many chances," says manager Craig Levein.

"It could have been one of those nights when we started feeling sorry for ourselves."

Despite missing all of those chances, Levein says he has no interest in bringing Kyle Lafferty back to the club after his release from Rangers.

A marathon shoot-out at the Excelsior Stadium, with the goalies both on target. The Diamonds eventually prevail 12-11 for the bonus point.

Partick Thistle are out in front at Group F after their win over Clyde at Firhill.

  6. Third round opponents in the balancepublished at 21:55 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

    FT: Celtic 5-0 Nomme Kalju

Celtic still have a second leg to negotiate in Tallinn next week but I think we can dare to look a bit further ahead. Will it be Cluj or Maccabi Tel Aviv in the penultimate qualifying round?

The Romanian champions won at home earlier this evening thanks to a Billel Omran header and the same player squandered a great chance in the second half.

  7. Night to remember for Griffithspublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

    FT: Celtic 5-0 Nomme Kalju

Leigh Griffiths was announced as the man-of-the-match at Celtic Park, which may have been slightly skewed by sentiment as the striker scored on his first start of 2019. It was quite a goal too, a peach of a free kick curled into the top corner.

Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor also scored wonderful goals and absolutely bossed the midfield in a very one-sided contest. However, I'm sure they will both be happy to see their team-mate rewarded after a tough period on the sidelines.

Celtic will play better sides but the comprehensive nature of this performance is very encouraging for Neil Lennon’s team.

They’ve been sharp all over the pitch and really ought to have scored a few more than the mere five they currently have.

They look well prepared for the demands of the coming weeks, where they will be tested, but confidence helps and they’ll have gained a lot of it here.

At this stage of the season, there are a lot of positives.

It was another fabulous finish this time from Ryan Christie who is becoming so influential for this Celtic side.

He oozes quality and confidence and has played a massive part in this match.

There’s been so much for Neil Lennon to enjoy this evening and the return leg is surely a mere formality.

Olivier Ntcham is on. Not such a warm welcome for the midfielder, who has been quoted saying he wants to leave.
