Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe turned away in disgust as referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot - not so much at the decision to award a penalty but as he probably knew Steve Cook's clumsy challenge on Che Adams has thrown struggling Southampton a real lifeline.

Suddenly, the Southampton fans are noisy and sensing something.

Jon Matthews: Bournemouth's style of play is the perfect antidote to Southampton's. That said, a little better with the final ball, a little more clinical in the shot and a little more organised in defence and Saints would be on top. The margins in football are always fine.

That was Southampton's best move of the game. Free-flowing football, a good switch of play and they had numbers in the box.
