    Sheffield United 0-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Georginio Wijnaldum to BBC Match of the Day: "We expected that we needed to work hard but we made it harder because we did not play our best game. Hats off to Sheffield United because they played really good and they had a few chances too. This game was hard but that's the Premier League, it's such a high level."

  13. 'No room for sentiment'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Tottenham v Southampton (15:00 BST)

BBC Sport at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Mauricio Pochettino has used his programme notes to urge calm after a poor run of form.

"As always, when we experience disappointing moments, we know the key is to remain calm in our minds and focussed," says the Spurs boss after back-to-back defeats to Leicester and, in the Carabao Cup, Colchester.

"As a group we have been through these situations before and I am sure we will navigate our way through this spell too."

With German champions Bayern Munich in town on Tuesday in the Champions League, Spurs need to respond with a positive result against Pochettino's old club Southampton.

"Southampton is a club I know well and admire following my time there, however today there is no room for sentiment," adds Pochettino.

  14. 'We did not get the points we deserved today'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Liverpool

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder: "I am not bothered about pride, I am bothered about the result. Liverpool had an off day and I think we missed an opportunity. In pressurised situations we need to remain composed. We were delighted with the shape but there chances came from our mistakes.

"We have had big moments in the game but we did not take them, we had to jump all over it and we didn't. We had enough to get something out of this game but we did not take our opportunities. Points are the most important thing and we did not get the points we deserved today."

On Dean Henderson: "If he wants to be a professional footballer, these things are going to happen. But if he wants to play for the top teams, he wants to play for England then he needs to do better, he needs to concentrate more, it's a disappointing day for him. I am not going to put my arms around him, simply he needs to do better."

  15. 'Happy, but not overly happy'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport:

"For us it was important to win. We had unbelievably big chances In the first half we had two big chances and in the second one which we scored from. These games, they are not all beauties and you have to work hard for the results.

"You have to respect the opponent, we had good moments and it was one of these games you have to win but not think too much about it. One team deserved to win, which was us, but all respect to Sheffield United, they were tough.

"I was frustrated, and at half time we spoke about it. We started well, but you have to do the same things again and again. It’s about body language, it starts with the centre halves, it’s the little things. They threw everything at us, they worked incredibly hard, they were a real threat. I am fine with the game, not overly happy but it happens. We were concentrated at set pieces for 95 minutes the boys were spot on. We didn’t play our best football but there we are."

    Neil Johnston

Mauricio Pochettino could do worse than to sit down with his opposite number Ralph Hasenhuttl after this game, ply him with the finest Argentinian red wine, and get him to unlock his secret to winning away from home.

While Spurs have not won on their top-flight travels since 20 January, Southampton have triumphed in their last four on the road - including league wins at Brighton and Sheffield United.

Should Saints add to Tottenham's woes today, it will be the first time since February 2015 they have won three Premier League away matches in a row.
