Sheffield United v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Chris Wilder fields a more familiar Sheffield United XI having made 10 changes for their midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland.

The Blades boss names a side unchanged from the 2-0 win at Everton last weekend, but David McGoldrick (groin) and Billy Sharp (suspended) will play no part.

Sheff Utd XI: Henderson, Basham, Egan, O'Connell, Baldock, Lundstram, Norwood, Fleck, Stevens, Robinson, McBurnie.

Subs: Moore, Luke Freeman, Jagielka, Mousset, Osborn, Clarke, Besic

    Sheffield United

Premier League leaders Liverpool are also unchanged from their last league game, a 2-1 win at Chelsea on Sunday, meaning Sadio Mane has recovered from a dead leg suffered in the game at Stamford Bridge.

Jurgen Klopp names Divock Origi among his substitute options, with the Belgian having returned from an ankle problem. James Milner (back) is also fit enough for the bench.

Liverpool XI: Adrian; Robertson, Matip, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Fabinho, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Subs: Kelleher, Lovren, Milner, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Origi

There are other games too. Oh boy, are there other games.

It's the Mauricio Pochettino derby - Tottenham v Southampton - just when Poch could probably do without the attention.

The Michael Kightly derby as Wolves host Watford in the battle of the winless bottom two.

The Leon Knight derby as Chelsea face Brighton with the hosts looking for a first home league win of the season.

The Tom Heaton derby, the Jermain Defoe derby and the Aaron Wilbraham derby.

  4. Unstuck at Goodison?published at 11:21 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

Everton v Man City (17:30 BST)

Liverpool's nearest challengers, Man City actually have something to prove today (sort of), which is remarkable considering that they stuck eight unanswered goals past Watford in their last league game.

However, if Pep Guardiola can be considered to have a bogey opponent in England, Everton have a case for being it.

It was at Goodison that the Spaniard suffered the worst league defeat of his glittering managerial career, losing 4-0 in January 2017. They also drew 1-1 at the Etihad that season.

They've made for it since with three straight wins over the Toffees. But, you know, we need to try and drum up some drama here people.

  5. Expulsion?published at 11:16 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

Not all his well in the kingdom of Anfield, though.

As has emerged this morning, Liverpool could face expulsion from the Carabao Cup if they are found to have fielded an ineligible player in the victory against MK Dons on Wednesday.

The EFL is investigating possible issues with the international clearance of midfielder Pedro Chirivella, who came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win.

Sanctions could range from a fine to being ejected from the cup.

"The club are aware of a potential administrative issue pertaining to one of our players," a club statement said.

  6. Six without a winpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

History, though, has a funny way of throwing up little coincidences.

Bramall Lane - the home of Liverpool's mid-day opponents Sheffield United - has proved to be a bit of a fallow field for the Reds, to the tune of the same of number of matches in which currently stand unblemished.

Six games they have gone without a victory at S2 4SU, a run stretching back to 1990 and a 3-1 win on the opening day of the 90-91 season (yes, that is Phil Thompson looking like a bank manager in the photo from that day, above).

What we have here is a team that has forgotten how to lose at a ground at which many will have forgotten their last win.

  7. Six of the bestpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

Yes, Liverpool remain the only side in England's top four divisions with a 100% winning record, with last weekend's win at Chelsea meaning they've given the Premier League six of the best before the cricket season had even pulled down the shutters.

It obviously leaves them top of the table, five points clear of the team that pipped them to last year's title, Manchester City.

And they have the chance this lunchtime to make that gap eight points before Pep Guardiola's lads have even laced up their boots.
