Fair to say the locals here were not happy after Everton's defeat at home to Sheffield United last weekend - they booed the players off the pitch.

Toffees boss Marco Silva addressed that situation with supporters in his programme notes and said that he and his players "shared your frustration", and want to help create a very different atmosphere today.

"The atmosphere you are creating in our stadium is really good, inspirational if we use it in the right way," he writes. "We will value your huge support today."

  12. 'Beaten by the better team'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Chelsea 2-0 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we were beaten by the better team. We rode our luck and Chelsea deserved to win. We didn't deserve to be 0-0 at half-time. But we gave a goal away which put us on the back foot. We weren't able to put enough pressure on their goal.

"We have to be as good as we can be. It is my responsibility and I have asked them to build attacks from the back. Mistakes happen. But we didn't lose the game because of that. Chelsea were just better than us. Nothing wrong with the attitude of the players.

"We have been working towards how we want to play. I am not sure we would be good at going direct against Chelsea. Whatever style you play it is going to be tough."

  13. 'Good comeback'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Bournemouth 2-2 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini:

"I don't feel disappointed that we didn't win, it was a good game and we played in a good way - the way I like - trying hard from the first minute.

"It is good to comeback. We were calm and always created options in attack..

On what he said to Eddie Howe after the final whistle: "Always when you come here, the assistant manager puts pressure on the referee. It's not fair to the game, the league or the visiting team. They don't need to do that because of what Eddie has done here. They don't need to do those things."

  14. 'Two points dropped'published at 17:23 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Bournemouth 2-2 West Ham

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "It's hard to know what my emotions are after that. We had an opportunity to make it 3-1, we were dominant at that point even though the game was end-to-end. But credit to West Ham, they scored and it's two points dropped.

"Defensively there are things to improve on, we need to keep a clean sheet. Callum Wilson will reflect on his miss [to make it 3-1], but took his goal well."

  15. 'We know we will get points soon'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Wolves 2-0 Watford

    Watford

Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue: "We had to play much better than last week. We had to improve. We are not in a good run. We created chances to score but we need to work harder. We are not lazy people, we are pushing each other which is a good sign and we need to keep going. This is football, sometimes things happen but we know we will get points real soon."

  16. 'We were looking to improve and we did'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Wolves 2-0 Watford

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

Watford manager Nuno Espirito Santo to the BBC: "It was a good performance. We started very well, created good problems and played with good lines. We did not allow many situations to worry us. We had clear chances to score so I am happy for the players and the fans. We were looking to improve and we knew we needed to score first. Today we did it.

On Pedro Neto's first start: "He was good. He is 19-years-old, all the talent that he has has to be organised and used well. He is growing with the game and that’s important that we use him the right way."

  17. 'Chelsea deserved to win'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Chelsea 2-0 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Overall, Chelsea deserved to win the game. They played well and forced us back. We rode our luck first half. We gave a goal away cheaply and then grew into the game but then gave a goal that killed the game. We are disappointed but credit to the opposition. Chelsea were good and we could not sustain any pressure.

"There are always things you can improve. You have to be clinical when the moments come. But the players gave everything and Chelsea were just better today.

"We have had a settled way of playing. Personnel have to change in the game if things are not working. The boys have been positive to what we want to do."

  18. 'Mount is surprising me'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Chelsea 2-0 Brighton

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We needed the win. We haven't had a 90 minute game where we've controlled it enough. The only disappointment is we didn't have more goals. A clean sheet as well. It is good for the confidence of everyone.

We had a lot of shots first half. But weak finishing and a bit of bad luck. You do start to wonder but you have to remain confident it will come and it did.

On Mason Mount: "The all-round game and quality of Mason. He is the cataylst for us getting in front with his sharpness. He was brilliant for me at Derby. I did not expect this level but he he is improving daily.

On the crop of young players coming through: "It is great for the club and a long time coming. The work is done in the academy. The mentality is great. They want to play for this club. At the moment they are earning it and setting a level for others. I have complete confidence in the lads. They are there on merit. Whatever game they take it on board and long may it continue."

  19. 'It's great to get the first win'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Wolves 2-0 Watford

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves goalscorer Matt Doherty: "It's great to get the first win in front of our crowd. It's taken a bit longer than we would have liked but good to get the first win. We like to get ahead in the game and our record when we go ahead is exceptional. That’s been the problem so far this season - we have struggled to score first and that has resulted in us losing. We have not had the start that we would have liked but now we can push on and improve on last season."

  20. "We are here with the mister"published at 17:07 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

I bumped into a few friends of Marco Silva outside Goodison Park just now…. They are from Portugal, support Benfica or Sporting, and are guests of the Everton manager today - or “we are here with the mister” as they put it, to see their first Premier League game.

They were enjoying soaking up the atmosphere outside the ground, and seemed very upbeat about Silva's situation... but if things go badly this evening then he probably needs as many allies inside Goodison Park as he can get.
