Hamilton manager Brian Rice praised his players for their response to last weekend's opening-day defeat, in particular teenage midfielder Lewis Smith, who scored one and created one.

"The effort the lads put in was sensational," he said. "We were down to 10 men for 35 minutes, we were hanging on, but we put bodies on the line and showed the old Hamilton spirit.

"Let's not forget, we were playing the team that finished third last season and we kept a clean sheet. Kilmarnock are a good team and I'm delighted with my lads today.

"Lewis has all the talent in the world. I need to try to find a place for him in the team at the moment, every day in training he's exceptional and he works really hard. I just said to him, 'I'm going to play you and give you the platform to produce'. The goal he scored was outstanding.

"It's only his third or fourth start for the team, but he'll get the platform here to show what he can do and then it's up to him.

"This was a big game for us after last week's performance and the players responded magnificently."

Kilmarnock manager Angelo Alessio wants new recruits to bolster his side following two defeats from two games in the Scottish Premiership.

"I'm very angry, very disappointed for the result. We conceded two stupid goals," said the Italian.

"Our attitude and approach was good and we had control of the match, with the possession, we play well. A shot from the edge of the box and we concede a goal and it changed the game.

"We created some opportunities to come back into the match but we could stay here two days and not score a goal.

"We have a lot of conversations at the moment and I hope in the next few days we take some players because this team needs other players.

"We have to complete this team. I am happy with the players I have but in some roles we don't have a solution."

A tight hamstring, nothing serious, was Craig Levein's explanation for the withdrawal of Steven Naismith at half-time.

Hearts boss Craig Levein is not shying away from criticising his side's performance.

"That was hard going," he tells Sportsound. "We didn't perform anywhere near the levels we needed to to win the game. I've got to compliment Ross County - I thought they were better than us today."

"We were second best all over the park and on another day we'd have lost the match. I thought our defending was poor today, we created a lot of problems for ourselves. Then when we did defend well we couldn't control the ball in midfield and when we did that we did nothing with it in the forward areas.

"I believe we'll get better and we'll get much better."

Ross County co-manager Stuart Kettlewell: "There's a real sense of frustration but a massive pat on the back for the players.

"They were really composed on the ball and battled well when they needed to.

"That's four points from the first two matches and when we play like that we showed we are a difficult team to beat.

"It wasn't to be today but the mood in our camp is one of positivity and we look forward to the next game."

Livingston manager Gary Holt: "We should have won the game. I thought we dominated the first half. Two good goals, other chances. We spoke at half time about St Johnstone wanting to overturn that but we gave them the first goal with a less than tidy back-pass. The grass was long and wasn't conducive to playing football. We were then a bit shell shocked for 5-10 minutes.

"We got the penalty late on and even in the second half I thought we had to be more clinical in the final third. We created loads of chances but didn't hit the target enough. We need to be more clinical and we need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright: "It has been a frustrating period for us but there's still 21 days left in the window so there's plenty of time to get people in. I'd like to get someone in this week and hopefully that will happen."

The Highlanders created the best chances over the course of a very entertaining 90 minutes but just couldn't stick one away.
