A big question mark over Casey Stoney's Manchester United side ahead of their first season in WSL is how would they cope with the step up after dominated the Championship last season?

In the opening 20 minutes, they have matched their cross-city rivals - a side that won the FA Cup and League Cup double last term.

Jane Ross has made a couple of great passes so far for United and her against Demi Stokes is worth watching on its own.

    Man City 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester City are a side that look very comfortable on the ball. They shift possession around with confidence and are pressing high. Manchester United, a side that conceded just seven goals in the league last season, hold firm.

City force the first corner of the game in the 15th minute, but nothing comes of it.

Mary Earps is back on her feet and is keen to continue. That is certainly an injury to watch, but for now we continue unchanged.

    Bristol City 0-0 Brighton

Brighton have grown into this game, the first Bristol City Women's fixture at Ashton Gate since 2017.

Home keeper Sophie Baggaley is called into action again, punching unconvincingly at a Brighton corner before her defenders scramble to ball clear.

Manchester City's Demi Stokes and Manchester United's Jess Sigsworth are having a right old battle out wide. So far, Stokes has come out on top.

There is a moments pause at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City goalkeeper Mary Earp seeks medical attention on her right ankle.

She is getting some heavy strapping applied, while on the sideline substitute keeper Aurora Mikalsen starts to warm up.

Could this be an early change and unexpected debut for Mikalsen, who only joined United 22 hours ago?

Leah Galton takes it upon herself to threaten for Manchester United.

She cuts in, glances up and lets rip. The shot is always rising, but the effort from the former Bayern Munich forward shows that newly promoted United mean business.

The thing that has jumped out at me at the start is Janine Beckie - her pace looks absolutely incredible.

She's shown me already that she has got more pace than possibly any of the United defenders, she'll want the ball over the top.

A nervous early moment on the ball for Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps.

A pass gets caught under her feet and she eventually clears. That has added to the early tension of the occasion.

    Bristol City 0-0 Brighton

The opening two minutes was played exclusively inside the Brighton defensive third as Bristol City started on the front foot.

But it was Brighton who have gone closest to opening the scoring, with home keeper Sophie Baggaley clawing away a Lea Le Garrec cross from underneath her own bar.

Manchester City calm on the ball early on, but they quickly up the tempo to put United's defence under pressure.

Jill Scott on the right wing sends in a cross which finds Georgia Stanway, who shoots well off target. A warning shot, that certainly is
