The German media have been critical of the team's efforts against the Dutch.

Berlin daily Der Tagesspiegel warned that "lessons must be learned" from the defeat while the country's biggest tabloid Bild said that "alarm bells" were now ringing around the qualification campaign.

Following Friday's jolting result, Germany keeper and captain Manuel Neuer has warned his team-mates not to underestimate a Northern Ireland team who have won their last five games.

"We know that anything can happen in football, we experienced that ourselves in 2018, so it is important we take this game seriously," he told Bild.

"It is not ideal for us to be playing an away game in Belfast right now. They have won all their games so far and it is always difficult to score goals against such opponents."

If things are tight nearing the end of the game tonight there's no reason for the home fans to despair.

Northern Ireland's last four competitive goals have been scored in the 77th minute or later, with two of those winning goals from Josh Magennis - in the 87th minute against Belarus and in the 80th minute to defeat Estonia.

Conor Washington pitched in with the equaliser in the 2-1 victory over Estonia on 77 minutes and Paddy McNair popped up with the crucial 86th-minute winner in his side's most recent qualifier success over Belarus on 11 June.

Nope, me neither. But these are the teams guaranteed a play-off place at least:

League A: Portugal, England, Switzerland, Netherlands

League B: Ukraine, Denmark, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden

League C: Finland, Norway, Scotland, Serbia

League D: Georgia, Belarus, Macedonia, Kosovo

Confused? It all makes sense here

    • Belgium have won their past five meetings with Scotland, without conceding a goal.
    • Steve Clarke has lost two of his first three matches in charge of Scotland - the last manager to lose at least three of his first four games was Berti Vogts (P4 L4).
    • Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has scored three goals in his two international appearances against Scotland.

    Wales v Belarus (19:45 BST)

Talisman Gareth Bale is only the bench for Wales' friendly with Belarus in Cardiff tonight.

There are five changes to the side which started Friday's Euro 2020 qualifying win over Azerbaijan, with Bale, Wayne Hennessey, Neil Taylor, Ethan Ampadu and Tom Lawrence dropping out.

In their place come debutants Joe Morrell and Kieffer Moore, plus Danny Ward, Ben Davies and Jonny Williams, who makes his first Wales start in more than three years.

Stoke's Joe Allen wears the captain's armband in the absence of Bale and Ashley Williams.

Wales: Danny Ward, Connor Roberts, Chris Mepham, Joe Rodon, Ben Davies, Joe Allen (capt), Joe Morrell, Dan James, Jonny Williams, Harry Wilson, Kieffer Moore.

Germany's 4-2 home defeat by the Dutch in Hamburg on Friday night kept Northern Ireland on top of the group following their opening four wins over Estonia and Belarus.

Of the German players who featured on Friday, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan (flu) and Borussia Dortmund full-back Nico Schulz (foot injury) have been ruled out of Joachim Low's squad.

MIchael O'Neill believes Friday's result probably makes his team's task even harder tonight.

"There will be a massive reaction," he added. "Those Germany players will be hurting from that result."

It's a special landmark for Northern Ireland skipper and midfield maestro Steven Davis who overtakes Aaron Hughes to become his country's most capped outfield player tonight with 113 appearances.

The Rangers player, the only survivor of the current squad from the famous September victories over England and Spain in 2005 and 2006, is now closing in on Pat Jennings' all-time NI record of 119 caps.

Davis has played the most game minutes for his club of any player in Michael O'Neill's squad this season and is sure to be an influential player for his side again tonight.

The 34-year-old has scored 12 goals for Northern Ireland and another tonight would see him join Colin Clarke and Billy Gillespie as joint third highest in the all-time goalscoring chart.

  10. Scots are mentally strong...published at 18:40 British Summer Time 9 September 2019

Scotland boss Steve Clarke insists his players have "good mental strength" as they prepare to meet in-form Belgium.

Clarke's side took an early lead against Russia on Friday before losing 2-1 - a third defeat in five Euro 2020 qualifying matches.

Scotland's slim hopes of automatic qualification now rest on taking points from the world's top-ranked team.

"They should be able to handle the pressure and expectation," said Clarke.

"Some of the talk after the game of nerves and not handling the game properly was not quite right. It was the way the game went away from us rather than nerves.

"I'm not so worried about the mental strength. We've got good mental strength."

Wales are also in action tonight - boss Ryan Giggs is likely to experiment with his side despite no new injury concerns following Friday's narrow win over Azerbaijan.

Captain Gareth Bale has declared himself fit for selection and should lead the side in the absence of Ashley Williams who did not make the squad as he was a free agent at the time.

Williams has since signed for Bristol City on a short-term deal.

Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey is out with a hamstring injury.
