But Arsenal waste the free-kick and the whistle blows for half-time without any additional time at all.

The home side's Rafa Soares is booked for a late, sliding challenge on Pepe. It's a yellow, no doubt about it. Thankfully for the Gunners, Pepe isn't hurt.

Arsenal are lucky not to fall behind as they leave Vitoria defender Frederico Venancio completely unmarked at a free-kick. Sloppy.

As the hosts' Pepe's cross come in from the left, Venancio looks poised to flick home the opener, but he guides his header over the bar instead.

Vitoria Guimaraes have been keen to shoot from outside the box whenever they've had the chance.

They've had eight efforts at goal in the opening half an hour, but it remains goalless.

Arsenal aren't alert to the threat at the second phase after a Vitoria free-kick, as the ball drops to Davidson in space, but he curls his shot narrowly wide of the far post.

The Gunners are bidding to win their first four group-stage games in a Europa League or Champions League campaign for only the second time.

They won their first five matches in the Champions League in 2005-06, when they would go on to reach the final.

Bukayo Saka does well down the left and dinks a cross in to the middle for Rob Holding, but tonight's Arsenal skipper - rising unchallenged - heads over the bar.

The Portuguese side look very shaky at the back, whenever Arsenal get a ball in to the box.

The officials tell Ainsley Maitland-Niles to leave the field temporarily to remove some jewellery from around his neck - a gold chain!

Up the other end, Shkodran Mustafi gets the game's first booking for a foul on Davidson down the hosts' left, and from the free-kick, Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez makes a decent save.

Rob Holding is wearing the captains armband, in the absence of new skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Holding has needed to be busy at the back so far. Most of the play has been in Arsenal's half.

Arsenal are under a bit of early pressure. This time Marcus Edwards - who scored at the Emirates - drives at goal from the right, but his strike is palmed away by Emiliano Martinez.

From the corner, Martinez eventually gathers the ball after an initial fumble. A nervy moment for the Gunners.

Pepe - not the Arsenal one - hits the bar! The Vitoria star has acres of space in midfield and unleashes a fierce effort at goal from well outside the box, but luckily for Arsenal it crashes off the underside of the crossbar. Very, very close for the hosts.

Arsenal break quickly through Joe Willock, who beats the first challenge and spreads the ball out to Bukayo Saka on the left, but Saka scoops his cross harmlessly out of play.

The hosts don't deal at all well with Kieran Tierney's cross from the left or Ainsley Maitland-Niles' low ball in from the right moments later, but neither delivery can quite find Nicolas Pepe in the middle for Arsenal.
