  2. 'Ampady and James are fine'published at 22:14 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Wales 1-1 Croatia

Wales boss Ryan Giggs on injuries and suspensions...

    "Ethan Ampadu is fine.

"Dan James went down and stayed down. A bit of acting really. The medical staff went over. He was compos mentis. We did tests at half-time and he passed them. He's fine.

"Gareth Bale got a bit of cramp. He didn't want to come off. It was a fantastic performance. It was a shame he got that for the last 10 minutes, so we were down one player really."

On Joe Allen's suspension: "It gives a chance for another player to come in. We will miss him. But we've got players who can come in and do a job."

  3. 'We're in it'published at 22:12 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Wales 1-1 Croatia

Wales boss Ryan Giggs to Sky Sports: "I'm very pleased. I thought the concentration was superb. The work ethic was amazing - team spirit, staying together against a very good team.

"We've got to win both games and rely on others. But we're in it. I wanted to be in it after these games. We've shown our quality and concentration in these games."

On Croatia's physical play: "They're smart players. They're good at stopping your flow and your counter-attacking. We need to get better at that. It's a physical game and we've come through it well."

Richard: Disgusting, cynical football from Croatia. They were determined not to lose by any means necessary and if that meant cleaning out James and Ampadu, so be it. Seriously talented players but seriously questionable tactics.

  7. Postpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Wales 1-1 Croatia

Croatia have won only two of their last eight away European Championship qualifying matches.

They have gone ahead in all four of their away games in Euro 2020 qualifying, but only won one of them.

  8. Postpublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Wales 1-1 Croatia

Wales are unbeaten in their last 10 home matches in European Championship qualifying since a 2-0 loss to England in March 2011. That run includes Euro 2012, 2016 and 2020 qualifiers.

  9. Postpublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Wales 1-1 Croatia

Wales have avoided defeat by Croatia for the first time since their first ever meeting in August 2002 (also a 1-1 draw). They had lost the previous four.

  10. Postpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

A slight blow for Wales actually as Croatia's two centre-backs - Dejan Lovren and Domagoj Vida - were booked today.

That means they both miss their next game... against Slovakia. Wales need Croatia to get at least a draw in that one.

  11. 'I'm fine'published at 21:57 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Wales 1-1 Croatia

Wales forward Daniel James to Sky Sports: "We knew it was going to be tough. It was a quick turnaround. We started well, although we conceded. To get the goal back showed character. There were a few tackles flying in but you expect that in these games.

We've shown what a great team we are. It was about bouncing back.

On his injury: "[I'm] fine. He caught me in the head. I didn't get knocked out."

Eight yellow cards in that one - five for Croatia and three for Wales.

  13. What do Wales need to do?published at 21:50 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

So to qualify, Wales need to win their final two games (at Azerbaijan and at home to Hungary) and hope Slovakia don't win both of their final two (in Croatia and at home to Azerbaijan).

Do that and Ryan Giggs' side are at Euro 2020. Fail to do that and it's the play-offs next March (probably).

The shape is a lot better, it looks like we know what we're doing. Dan James can still brush up on his defensive positioning I think, understanding where he needs to be but it's been good.

    There are 20 seconds left.

About 90 seconds to go. Wayne Hennessey, who has actually been kept pretty quiet, catches a long ball forward.

Tyler Roberts has grown in years since he came on. I think he told Gareth Bale to go up front and I'll come out and do your job on the wing. He knew he wasn't going anywhere then but was smart enough to win the foul.
