    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Switzerland

More and more Swiss pressure - another cross in is well cleared away before Alan Judge wastes a good crossing chance at the other end.

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Luxembourg

NI sub Shayne Lavery shows great pace to get in behind the defence, he has no help inside so shoots from a tight angle and lashes into the side-netting. Unlucky!

  3. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 5 September 2019

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Luxembourg

Two penalty appeals in quick succession for the hosts! It's certainly clumsy on Gavin Whyte as he skins his man inside the area but there's not enough contact there for the referee.

  4. CLOSE!published at 21:06 British Summer Time 5 September 2019

Chance! Ah and he's blown it.

Breel Embolo gets a shooting chance inside the six-yard box and he loses his footing just as he is about to strike.

Embolo then powers into the box and stands up a cross and that man Alan Judge is there to head it away!

On a night when the home crowd are in need of a lift, the sight of former captain Aaron Hughes on the pitch here now has given them one.

Having retired in June, Northern Ireland's most capped outfield player is given a special presentation on the pitch.

And he says playing for NI is what he is missing the most in retirement.

Thanks for the memories, Aaron. Don't be a stranger to Windsor!

You can see why Uefa wanted the Nations League instead of friendlies - the players are going through the motions out there. Northern Ireland don't have a lot of strength in depth and that's evident out there. Michael O'Neill has a core of 15 or 16 players he trusts and it's down to some of the players out there tonight to push their way into that group. However, throughout the first half, they haven't staked a claim for a more regular starting berth. It's been slow and laboured and with far too many sideways passes.

  15. Calamity Kevin sums up halfpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 5 September 2019

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Luxembourg

    Mark Sterling
BBC Sport NI at Windsor Park

If ever a goal summed up a half of football it was Kevin Malget's header into his own net in the 37th minute of this one at Windsor Park.

It's a match which has been totally devoid of any quality - bar a few breaks down the right by Northern Ireland's hard-working winger Gavin Whyte.

It's difficult to think of anything home boss Michael O'Neill will have learnt from the half - he already knew a friendly four days before a big Euro qualifier was far from ideal.

The home crowd no doubt realise that as well. The Kop has tried to lift the atmosphere a few times - the Kyle Lafferty song is always a safe bet for a rendition or two - but it's been a fairly flat evening all round at Windsor Park so far.

Sulaimon: Sincerely Northern Ireland have got no chance against former world champions Germany but they will give a good account of themselves.

Luxembourg looked decent for long spells but a rather comedic own goal has gifted Northern Ireland a lead in this friendly.
