Bedlam in the stadium as M’Baye Niang sends Fraser Forster the wrong way from the penalty spot to put the home side ahead. Cue the DJ, who takes one out of the Celtic playlist with Just Cant Get Enough from Depeche Mode. Barely audible over the cheering of the home fans...

  3. Rennes 1-0 Celticpublished at 39 mins

How will Celtic react to that defensive calamity? They force a quick corner but the Rennes defence is equal to the task. We're into the last five minutes of a fascinating first half.

Celtic have had their chances but they trail to a brilliantly taken penalty by Mbaye Niang.

Terrible defending from Kristoffer Ajer. The first time that Mbaye Niang has caused any kind of threat. Ajer just gets too tight. Be tight but don't dive in. He makes a terrible decision. You can't be defending like that, certainly against a player who has played at the level Niang has.

Elsewhere in Celtic's Europa League group Italian giants - and the presumed favourites for top spot - Lazio have taken the lead against Cluj through defender Bastos.

The Serie A side have been dominating the first half but the opening goal came from the central defender's header after a cross in from the corner.

    Rangers v Feyenoord (20:00)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says he expects a "fantastic game" against Dutch giants Feyenoord this evening.

"I think Feyenoord come with a big reputation, they play an exciting brand of football," he said. "I don't think they will come and sit in. It is all set up to be a fantastic game. Jaap Stam was a fantastic player and you can see his philosophy when you watch his team play. It will be a tough test. We have to aim for maximum points at home."

What a chance. It's good play from Celtic. A nice little through ball to Bolingoli, a brilliant cross and I think Elyounoussi throws himself at it too late. If he goes earlier he's got a tap-in.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20 mins

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

Two yellow cards for Celtic: the first for striker Odsonne Edouard for taking a tumble in the box; the second for captain Scott Brown for an over-zealous challenge on Clement Grenier.

  14. CLOSE!published at 19 mins

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

What a chance for Celtic to score the opener. Boli Bolingoli whips in a dangerous cross... but it's missed by a sliding Mohamed Elyounoussi.

    A reprieve for Rennes.

  15. From France with love...published at 18:14

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Sport Scotland in Rennes

It’s a riot of colour inside Roazhon Park. The red and black of Rennes; the green and white of Celtic. A pristine, cloudless early evening blue Breton sky. The floodlights are on despite the beautiful weather. Both sides testing each other out in the first 10 minutes where the only thing that’s lacking is some flowing football....

  16. Rennes will we see a goal?published at 18 mins

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

Clement Grenier has spurned Rennes' best chance, while Odsonne Edouard sliced Celtic's best chance high and wide of target.

We're still waiting for either side to break the deadlock.

  17. Edouard goes for the 'spectacular'published at 18:11

It's great play by James Forrest - Edouard's backing off and trying to go for the spectacular. I think he could have chested it down or at least got his head on it. It's encouraging - Forrest getting down that right-hand side and getting crosses in. Celtic will continue to get chances because Morel isn't used to playing at left-back.

  18. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

What a chance, of the full variety, this time. Rennes slice Celtic open down the right before Clement Grenier heads over the bar from an inch-perfect cross - much to the relief of Fraser Forster.

"He just got the header wrong," says BBC Sportsound pundit Neil McCann.

  19. Edouard spurns half-chancepublished at 10 mins

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

We can file this one in the 'half-chance' file. James Forrest dances down the right before spearing through the Rennes defence.

The winger stands up a sumptuous cross for Odsonne Edouard... but the normally lethal French marksman slices his effort high and wide.

    Encouraging signs for the visitors...

  20. Sleepy start in French sunpublished at 8 mins

    Rennes 0-0 Celtic

Ryan Christie flights in a free-kick, it drops in the box to Scott Brown but the Celtic skipper is penalised for a high boot.

Free kick to Rennes and it remains goalless as we approach the 10-minute mark with neither goalkeeper called into action.
