    Young Boys 0-0 Rangers

Ryan Jack wins possession with what looked suspiciously like a foul, but the midfielder fails to take advantage as he and Sheyi Ojo appear to lack conviction on the edge of the home penalty box.

    Young Boys 0-0 Rangers

Rangers have certainly settled now and a Ryan Jack shot cannons off a defending foot and is held easily by goalkeeper David von Ballmoos.

At least it is a goal attempt by the visitors.

It was a really good move from Young Boys. You wouldn't have bet on Jean-Pierre Nsame missing that chance. You'd expect the big fella to bury that

    Young Boys 0-0 Rangers

Rangers have a narrow escape as Fabian Lustenberger's cross is flicked on by Roger Assale to strike partner Jean-Pierre Nsame, but he can only side-foot wide from in front of goal and an offside flag saves his blushes.

A familiar face for British football fans in the Young Boys side is Saidy Janko.

The wide man had had a pretty forgettable two-year spell with Celtic after leaving Manchester United.

The 23-year-old Swiss is on loan from Porto, having been previously been farmed out to Nottingham Forest.

This is why Young Boys are so formidable at home. They like the surface and they shift it quick. There's a real urgency and tempo about their game. After a good opening period from Rangers, they're struggling to get a foothold

Another sniff at goal from the home side as Fabian Lustenberger's fine chip finds Ulisses Garcia bursting into the penalty box, but the big defender's first touch takes the ball into the arms of goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

    Young Boys 0-0 Rangers

Young Boys create the first goal chance from their first corner.

It's a clever one that finds Michel Aebischer on the edge of the penalty box, but his shot is blocked by Filip Hellander.

Ryan Jack has had his head up two or three times. He's trying to see quick passes. This surface lends itself to that type of play

It's all fairly hectic in midfield, with neither side being able to keep possession for a sustained period.

The watered pitch is certainly making for a game of slick passing.

Already Roger Assale looks a threat up front with his pace for the home side.

  16. Good in Europe, not so against Scotspublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 3 October 2019

    Young Boys v Rangers (17:55)

This is the second time the sides have met - Rangers progressing to that 1977-78 Cup Winners' Cup first round following a 3-2 victory on aggregate.

Young Boys have failed to win any of their four games against Scottish opposition, drawing twice and losing their most recent such encounter 1-0 to Celtic in the 1993-94 Uefa Cup.

The Swiss side have won 12 of their previous 17 home matches in the Europa League, losing four - a 71% win ratio.

Rangers are without a win in their last 12 away matches in major European competition since beating Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in the Uefa Cup in April 2008 but have drawn eight of them.

  18. Gerrard opts for 'experienced' Helanderpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 3 October 2019

    Young Boys v Rangers (17:55)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard explains why he opted for Filip Helander over Nicola Katic in the centre of defence.

Speaking to BT Sports, he says: "Helander is in because he's very experienced. He's an international footballer, he has caps for Sweden and he's played in Serie A.

"So he's got a big level of experience and that's what you need in these games. It's about the small details. Getting tight in the box and marking your man. Leading out there and pulling people in to positions. So I've gone for experience over the back four tonight."

    Young Boys v Rangers (17:55)

Young Boys beat Sion, who had been third, 3-2 on Saturday to stay three points behind Swiss Super League leaders Basel. Their only defeat in 14 games this season came against Porto in the opening group game and they are unbeaten in 24 home outings, including five this season, since losing to 3-2 to Luzern on 6 October last year.

Rangers are seeking a sixth consecutive victory since their only defeat of the season - at home to Scottish champions Celtic. They are unbeaten in nine away games this season, winning their last last three, and have not conceded in their last five.
