It's a horrible night. It's absolutely disgusting and the people that have come out should give themselves a round of applause. But footballers love playing on a night like this. There's no wind, so the conditions lend themselves to slick one-twos

  2. Game in danger?published at 18:04 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Scotland 3-0 San Marino

The Hampden pitch is looking increasingly sodden and the ball is sticking in the puddles.

    Could the game be abandoned?

John McGinn in particular will be hoping his hat-trick is not wiped off the record books.

  3. Postpublished at 46mins

    Scotland 3-0 San Marino

Scott McTominay threatens again for Scotland, but the midfielder misses out again, heading over the crossbar.

    Quote Message

What is surprising to me is that two of San Marino's smallest players are picking up two of our centre-backs. We should be picking up on that and trying to isolate that and working with it. If we're wanting more goals this evening, that's the way to do it

  8. 'I like how we've moved the ball'published at 17:57 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    HT: Scotland 3-0 San Marino

    Neil McCann
Former Scotland winger on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It has been quite enjoyable to see Scotland score a few goals. It's not often that we get to witness a hat-trick from a player in a Scotland jersey. I like how we've moved the ball. We've injected tempo

  9. 'Specal moment for McGinn'published at 17:55 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    HT: Scotland 3-0 San Marino

    Billy Dodds
    Former Scotland striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

It'll be special. It doesn't matter who you're playing against. If you get a hat-trick at any level - especially at international level - it tops it all. It's good for John McGinn and good for Scotland. So far so good

  10. Applause for impressive Scotspublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    HT: Scotland 3-0 San Marino

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden

This match had the look of a lose-lose scenario for Scotland, but the Tartan Army acknowledges an impressive and dominant first-half display as the drookit players troop up the tunnel.

Scotland have been as relentless as the Glasgow rain in the opening period and probably should be further in front.

  11. HALF-TIME Scotland 3-0 San Marinopublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

It's been raining goals at a wet Hampden, lifting the national spirits after a dismal Euro 2020 qualifying campaign up until this point and the rugby team's World Cup exit this morning.

John McGinn is the happiest of all after grabbing a first-half hat-trick, although there are doubts whether he got a touch to Ryan Christie's cross for the early opener.

The caveat is that San Marino are playing exactly like you would expect a team sitting bottom of the world rankings and made up of players from the lower tiers of the Italian professional set-up and amateur clubs.

  14. RED CARD IN NICOSIApublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 13 October 2019

    Cyprus 0-2 Russia

Cyprus defender Konstantinos Laifis is sent off in their Group I game against Russia for tripping an opposing player during a counter attack. The red card means the 26-year old won't be available for selection when Cyprus welcome Scotland on 11 November.

Russia seem to be cruising now after Denis Cheryshev set up Magomed Ozdoev to score the second goal with a simple close-range finish in the 23rd minute.

I like McTominay tonight. He's not playing the anchor role in midfield and he's been encouraged to go forward. He looks sharp
