Adam Barrett continues his audition for the Millwall job as he takes the Lions across the Thames and west to Brentford.

The 39-year-old is one of three men in the frame to replace Neil Harris, having won his first match in caretaker charge against Leeds before the international break.

Brentford have won just one of their past five games - the exact same record which south-east Londoners Charlton Athletic have after 11 league outings.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer begins a three-match touchline ban for the visit of Derby County, who are unbeaten in five and starting to put their off-field issues behind them after Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett avoided jail after pleading guilty to drink-driving.

Hull City saw a five-match unbeaten run come to an end at Huddersfield last time out, while today's visitors Queens Park Rangers are targeting a sixth win in eight Championship outings.

  2. Struggling Stoke face Fulham testpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Stoke v Fulham (15:00 BST)

And so to Stoke City, who recorded their first Championship win since April when they won 2-1 at Swansea on 5 October.

The Potters remained bottom of the table despite victory - as they'd taken just two points from their first 10 games - but at least that result gave under-pressure manager Nathan Jones a stay of execution.

The Welshman promptly said a "culture of blaming and not really caring" was now "starting to turn".

That will be put to the test when Fulham - another team tipped to challenge for promotion - rock up, as Stoke have not won back-to-back league games since October last year.

The Whites are looking for an immediate return to the top flight and are unbeaten in their past six league games - although they have drawn four of those matches.

Scott Parker's side are full of goals, with Aleksandar Mitrovic's eight making him the leading scorer in the second tier.

    Reading v Preston (15:00 BST)

    Madejski StadiumImage source, Rex Features

Reading were the second Championship club who parted company with their manager over the international break.

Jose Gomes departed the Madejski Stadium after 10 months in charge; the Portuguese arrived last December with the Royals 21st in the table, and departed with them in 22nd.

After drawing up a shortlist of candidates to appoint, sporting director Mark Bowen was then promptly offered the job himself - and accepted the change in role.

The 55-year-old former Wales defender has spent most of his coaching career working under Mark Hughes and begins his first job as a number one on home soil.

Today's visitors Preston North End have gone under the radar somewhat, quietly going about their business to string together an eight-match unbeaten run which put them third in the table before the October hiatus.

The Lilywhites, who were bottom of the table this time last season, thumped Barnsley 5-1 last time out as top scorer Daniel Johnson scored twice.

Middlesbrough v West Brom (15:00 BST)

West Bromwich Albion went into the international break on top of the Championship, having reacted well to their first defeat of the league campaign.

The Baggies saw their nine-match unbeaten start come to an end at Leeds United, but Slaven Bilic's charges responded by beating Cardiff 4-2 at The Hawthorns.

They take a trip to the north east today to Middlesbrough, who appear like they will have to adjust their expectations of this season.

Boro finished fifth and seventh in the past two campaigns, but are languishing in 20th place - two points above the relegation zone - before this one.

The Teessiders were second in the table at this stage last season, but Jonathan Woodgate has picked up just two wins in the Championship since his appointment in the summer.

With three defeats in four, it could be a bleak autumn for the Boro if things don't pick up soon.

    League One preview

In his spare time - when he is not being linked with other jobs or playing in his band Cold Blooded Hearts - Gareth Ainsworth manages Wycombe Wanderers.

The fact he has done such a good job with the Chairboys, guiding them to second in League One, means he has held talks with Millwall and Sunderland about switching into their hotseats.

Ainworth has said he is "really happy" at Adams Park and it will take "something special" for him to leave the club.

The Black Cats have decided to appoint Phil Parkinson as theri new manager instead, and his first match in charge of the Wearsiders has thrown up... a trip to Wycombe!

Proof the football gods do smile on us from time to time.

Elsewhere in League One, Peterborough go to Gillingham and Keith Hill, manager of bottom club Bolton Wanderers welcomes his former club Rochdale as he looks for his first win.

And Glyn Hodges continues in interim charge of AFC Wimbledon, after boss Wally Downes was suspended until 14 November for breaking the Football Association's betting regulations.

There were two games last night, with both Lincoln v Shrewsbury and Tranmere v Southend ending in draws.

League leaders Ipswich Town are not in action til tomorrow. Here is the full run-down of games, which all kick-off at 15:00 BST.

    • AFC Wimbledon v Portsmouth
    • Bolton Wanderers v Rochdale
    • Doncaster Rovers v Bristol Rovers
    • Fleetwood Town v Burton Albion
    • Gillingham v Peterborough United

Luton v Bristol City (15:00 BST)

Bristol City are one of two teams in the Championship who remain unbeaten since suffering defeat on the opening day of the season.

After a 3-1 defeat at home by Leeds on 4 August, the Robins have won five and drawn five and sit sixth, two points off the top of the table.

City are unbeaten away from home in the Championship this season, and travel to a Luton Town who are winless in three games at Kenilworth Road in all competitions.

But the Hatters are holding their own in the second tier unber rookie boss Graeme Jones following promotion last season, starting the weekend three points above the bottom three.

Yet, with one win from their last five in the Championship, they could do with a positive result from their first league meeting with Bristol City since March 2005.

  9. Leeds mark 100th birthday at Elland Roadpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Leeds v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

Leeds United cornerflagImage source, Rex Features

Leeds United celebrated their centenary in midweek, with a series of events culminating in the Whites side of 1967-74 being awarded the freedom of the city.

Under the management of legendary boss Don Revie, Leeds won two First Division titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup during that seven-year period.

I'm sure a few supporters of the Elland Road side may consider swapping all those titles for a promotion to the Premier League.

In their 16th season outside of the top flight, the pre-season favourites for promotion have gone through a sticky patch

Marcelo Bielsa's men have just one win in four, losing with 10 men at Millwall last time out.

Pep Clotet, who has been caretaker head coach of Birmingham City since the departure of Garry Monk in June, ended a run of three straight defeats when his side beat against Middlesbrough two weeks ago.

The Blues have won five, lost five and drawn one in the Championship coming into this one, with 16-year-old Jude Bellingham their second-top scorer on two goals.

  10. Tykes start life after Stendelpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Barnsley v Swansea (15:00 BST)

    OakwellImage source, Rex Features

The second international break of the season has prompted a few managerial changes in the EFL, including one at Oakwell.

Daniel Stendel, who led Barnsley to automatic promotion from League One last season, was sacked following a 5-1 defeat at Preston, with the Tykes second from bottom on six points after 11 games.

Some supporters held a leaving party for Stendel - which the German actually attended - and caretaker Adam Murray revealed his exit had come as a surprise.

Murray has the task of rousing the club, with the visit of Swansea City his first assignment.

The Welsh side were top of the Championship with 16 points from their first six games but have gone off the boil slightly since then.

Steve Cooper's side have won just one of their past five, and were beaten at home by rock bottom Stoke last time out.

But the Swans are still in the thick of the action, sitting fourth in the table and one points behind leaders West Brom.

After the draw at Ewood Park, now it's time to concentrate on the 15:00 BST games.

Here is how the top of the Championship looks after the first two games of the weekend, with Sheffield Wednesday missing the chance to move into the automatic promotion places last night when they drew at Cardiff.

This picture doesn't quite tell the full story of how congested the top half is: only three points separate leaders West Brom from ninth-placed Queens Park Rangers.

A point keeps Blackburn in 14th place in the table, and here is the picture at the bottom.

The point in Lancashire moves Huddersfield one point above the bottom three, but gives Reading a chance of moving out of the relegation zone if they win at home against Preston.

They can and it's four unbeaten for Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers took the lead through Karlan Grant's early penalty before goals from Lewis Holtby and Bradley Dack turned it around before the break.

Sub Juninho Bacuna came off the bench to score for the third successive game to earn a point for Danny Cowley's improving side.

They move one point clear of the relegation zone, while Rovers are now winless in four.
