Nottingham Forest had their promotion push dented on Sunday when they suffered just their second defeat of the campaign.

The Tricky Trees had been unbeaten since the first day of the season but saw their 10-match unbeaten run come to an end at Wigan Athletic.

Forest are back on home turf for the visit of Hull City and - after the rest of the top six dropped points last night - know they have the chance to return to the automatic promotion places.

The Tigers led QPR on Saturday through Jarrod Bowen's sixth goal of the season but were eventually beaten 3-2 at the KCOM Stadium as they suffered a second straight defeat.

City last lost three in a row back in April.

Huddersfield Town are unbeaten in four games, with wins over Stoke and Hull sandwiched by draws against Millwall and Blackburn.

Juninho Bacuna netted his third goal in as many appearances to salvage a point against Rovers in the early kick-off on Saturday.

That upturn has been overseen by Danny Cowley - who had time for some autographs before kick-off - and now the Terriers are targeting consecutive home league victories for the first time since November 2017, when they beat Man Utd and West Brom in the top flight.

Their improvement in form has come at a good time with Middlesbrough - a team at a low ebb - visiting the John Smith's Stadium this evening.

Boro have lost four games in a five-match winless run and are just a point above Huddersfield in the table.

Jonathan Woodgate is enduring a difficult start to life as manager of his hometown club, who have finished in the top seven in their past four second-tier campaigns.

It's an early season six-pointer, and the Terriers have already chalked up one such win this season after taking all three points away at the Potters at the start of the month.

Fulham suffered a first defeat in seven league games at the weekend as they were beaten 2-0 at struggling Stoke.

Any Whites fan hoping a return to Craven Cottage will provide just the tonic to get their promotion bid back on track may be disappointed, as the west Londoners have won just one of their past five at home in all competitions.

But boss Scott Parker can always count on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Since making his debut for Fulham in February 2018, the Serb has scored 37% of Fulham's league goals (31 out of 84) - and has eight this season already.

These two clubs haven’t met in any competition since December 1999 - a 3-0 win for Fulham in an FA Cup third-round replay.

Luton Town make the short trip to the capital on the back of a 3-0 win against Bristol City.

The Hatters, promoted from League One last season, start the day five points above the relegation zone and have suffered just one defeat in their past four.

  4. Can Ipswich bounce back from defeat?published at 19:30 British Summer Time 23 October 2019

    League One preview

Top of the table Ipswich Town saw their unbeaten start to life in League One come to an end at Accrington Stanley on Sunday.

Paul Lambert's side had won eight and drawn three of their first 11 games, but went down 2-0 in Lancashire as they finished with 10 men.

Wycombe missed the chance to replace the Tractor Boys at the summit last night, and Ipswich can go three points clear if they beat Rotherham at Portman Road.

Elsewhere in the third tier, third-placed Peterborough host Accrington and Coventry entertain fellow play-off challengers Fleetwood.

All three games kick off at 19:45 BST.

    • Coventry City v Fleetwood Town
    • Ipswich Town v Rotherham United
    • Peterborough United v Accrington Stanley
  5. Rams host travel-sick Wiganpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 23 October 2019

    Derby v Wigan (19:45 BST)

Derby County are having a bit of a strange season on the pitch.

The Rams, who have reached the play-offs in three of the past four seasons, are languishing in mid-table and have had a joint league-high six draws under new boss Phillip Cocu.

Saturday's 3-0 humbling at Charlton was a first defeat in six but, conversely, County have only won two of their past 11 in the Championship.

Jekyll or Hyde - or just simply draw specialists - they entertain a Wigan Athletic side who beat high-flying Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Latics lost four of their first five this season but have recovered to register three wins in their past five.

However, they have suffered defeats on their last two trips away from the DW Stadium, at Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday.

In fact Wigan are not good travellers in general, with just one win in 28 games on the road in all competitions - and those three points came with 10 men at Leeds in April.

  6. Robins seek response after rare defeatpublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 23 October 2019

Bristol City v Charlton (19:45 BST)

Bristol City had gone 10 games unbeaten since losing to Leeds United on the opening weekend, but came back down to earth with a bump on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 at Luton.

That saw the Robins slip out of the play-off places and they go into this one two points off the top six.

Charlton Athletic had a convincing 3-0 win over Derby County, and joint-top scorer Lyle Taylor should be back from a knee injury soon.

Boss Lee Bowyer serves the second match of his three-game touchline ban, with the Addicks aiming to make it three unbeaten.

The south-east Londoners come into this one a point ahead of City and - with the play-off places congested - victory would provide a either side with a big stride up the table.

Bristol City have made four changes to the team that fell to a surprise 3-0 defeat by Luton. Wingers Niclas Eliasson and Callum O'Dowda both come in. Charlton also make four alterations, despite recording a 3-0 win over Derby on Saturday. Beram Kayal comes in for his first start for the Addicks.

Derby make one change from Saturday's loss at Charlton - Duane Holmes is in for Chris Martin. There's a Championship debut for Wigan's Dujon Sterling, while midfielder Sam Morsy is back from suspension to start for the Latics.

Fulham have made a change in goal after the 2-0 defeat at struggling Stoke on Saturday, Marek Rodak is between the sticks tonight. Luton beat Bristol City 3-0 on Saturday, as mentioned above, so unsurprisingly they are unchanged.

Huddersfield are forced into one change with goalkeeper Kamil Grabara ruled out through illness, Ryan Schofield comes in for his league debut for the Terriers. On a night of goalkeeper changes, Middlesbrough give an EFL debut to Aynsley Pears.

Nottingham Forest, who will go second with victory tonight, recall striker Lewis Grabban after resting him for the defeat at Wigan on Sunday. Hull City make four changes after the 3-2 defeat by QPR, forward Josh Magennis is in after coming on to score in that game.

    Big night at the bottom

Here's how the top of the Championship looks heading into this evening's fixtures.

Five of the top six were in action last night and they all failed to win, allowing Sheffield Wedensday to move into the play-off places.

Nottingham Forest will go second if they win tonight, while victory would take Charlton, Bristol City or Fulham into the top six.
