Liverpool had to dig deep. A good start from Tottenham, we have seen flashes of a much better team performance than has been seen of late. Liverpool stuck at their task, they created several opportunities and they probably deserved the win. Spurs came back late in the game but it was a little bit too late. Full credit to Liverpool to create the amount of opportunities. It was a fantastic game of football.

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC MOTD: "I really liked the way we played against really tough opponents.

"It was a wonderful game of football, it's how you wish games should be.

"The boys delivered. We had chance after chance and the keeper had sensational save after sensational save.

"At half-time I said this game had only one problem - the scoreline.

"When Tottenham had the ball their counter-attacks were incredible. We won the game and deserved it."

Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, speaking to BBC MOTD: "For us it's all about the next game. That's our focus. We're not looking where we are in the league or how many points we have got. The next team is Arsenal in midweek and that's what we have to get ready for.

"We kept going and managed to get the penalty and score that. The reaction was fantastic from the lads and we deserved the three points.

"We are very critical of ourselves and always want to do better. The good thing is we keep winning games. There are still things we can improve on."

Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay speaking to BBC Sport: “We were due to put in a performance like that for 90 minutes. There are still few mistakes in there we need to iron out but it’s important we keep the faith and keep putting performances in like that.”

On scoring Manchester United’s 2000th Premier League goal: “That’s an incredible feeling and one all my family and friends will be proud of as well. It’s an amazing achievement to have under your belt. It was an important goal to get us up and running and after that we followed it up well so that was pleasing.”

On Fred’s performance: "Fred was brilliant today, we are working as a pair and getting more and more understanding as a midfield two. So I thought he was great and he should get credit it for his performance.”

On Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James: "If you are a defender you don’t want to come up against three players like that. But we need that from the whole team. We are not going to get carried away with three points away from home, we need to carry it on. We need to take baby steps, keep the positive energy. We trust our team, our manager, the coaching staff and the principals they are teaching us.”

Chris Jefferson: Forget the football, this game has been overshadowed by Xhaka. Booing not good. His response disgraceful. And it’s one man who keeps playing him and named him captain..

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a really good performance. We started so poorly, conceding twice from two corner kicks. Our record in that respect had been pretty good and suddenly you're thinking this could go very badly for us.

"We gradually got back into the game and the way we came out in the second half was very strong. I'm very pleased with the result and how the players have gone about the game today."

On the role of VAR in the match: "I'm glad for [referee] Martin [Atkinson] because if, in the pre-VAR days, that hadn't been given then all the pundits and everyone would have said that was a clear penalty. I thought it was clear and I'm pleased it got overturned.

"Of course, we got another VAR decision that went our way at the end - there was a lot of pushing going on so I'm glad the right decision was made in the end."

Alex Maguire: Surely Emery’s time at Arsenal is up, he clearly has no idea how to get the best of the team and the defence is absolutely terrible.

Arsenal

Last week they didn't check VAR for a penalty for us but we respect that. Two weeks ago there is one penalty for Pepe against Bournemouth, they didn't check, okay. I don't understand.

"For me there is no confusion - it is not a good decision. We deserved to win, we had a good reaction after they equalised, we scored but then they didn't count it.

"We didn't concede many chances apart from the penalty to score. Our reaction was very good, also the supporters help us in the last minutes to score the third goal and win the match but this doesn't happen."

Matt: The Xhaka situation has been bubbling over for a while now. Unhealthy relationship with the fans and should never have been made captain. Daft.

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Unai Emery speaking to BBC Match of the Day on Granit Xhaka's reaction:

"He's wrong but we are going to speak inside about that situation.

"I want to be calm but, really, he was wrong in this action."

Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk on BBC 5 Live: "I think the win was deserved. We knew it was going to be tough but when they scored after less than a minute that made it harder. We reacted, kept putting on pressure. Their goalkeeper was outstanding.

"In the second half we kept that intensity going and that was what got us through. I think even before Henderson’s goal, we kept going. We managed to control Tottenham, we had to be aware of their pace but I think we did that pretty well. We knew it was going to be tough, it’s always difficult against them. We can be proud in the way we reacted."

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "We started well but the way we conceded was a bit unlucky. Tottenham then defended well, their counter-attacks were incredible. But the best thing was that you couldn’t see any influence of the goal. We weren’t nervous, we just followed the plan, doing everything in the right way.

"Their goalkeeper made some incredible saves but we stayed calm. At half-time we said this game only had one problem, the score. There were one or two things we could do better and adapt a little bit.

"I wasn’t surprised by Tottenham. They have the quality to cause any team in the world problems. We had 70% possession but that’s okay for a team like Tottenham because each ball you lose, they have speed on the counter-attack and Harry Kane is so strong.

"But we were in control, we pushed them back and dominated apart from the last five minutes when we felt the intensity of the game. It was a super game and I loved it."

On fitness of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah: "Virgil has got a dead leg. It’s painful but he will be fine. And Mo is his ankle, it gets sore the longer the game goes but it is not a massive issue."

Norwich City

Norwich boss Daniel Farke to BBC Sport: "It's difficult for us. In the first half we didn't play major enough and there were a few lessons learned.

"In general it is difficult when three centre halves are not available. We started well and you have to be more focused and convinced when trying to score and in terms of defending.

"The second goal was horrible counter defending. I was happy with the reaction in the second half, to show more physicality was quite good.

On the first penalty being awarded by VAR: "It's quite obvious it was a big mistake. The referee was right and it was Daniel James falling on the defender. I don't blame VAR for this defeat, we were not major enough in the first half.

"It's important to improve. We look forward to having our centre-backs back but we have to take this as a lesson. You need physicality and robustness and we missed that in the first half."

Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We tried in the last 10 or 15 minutes and had chances but it was impossible.

"I've got no complaints about the penalty. You can have your own opinion. It was a fair reaction."

On Paulo Gazzaniga's performance: "He made some good saves but for sure he is so frustrated and disappointed because we lost."

Manchester United

More from Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "I don't want to talk too much about VAR. I disagree with the first one, the second one is but both should be retaken, the goalkeeper is a yard off his line. We are talking about it again.

"VAR is there to help but when it takes ages like the first penalty, it is not a clean and obvious error. When it took that long, it is a signal that it should not have been.

"We have missed Anthony, he is a very important player for us, the way we play and today Marcus Rashford was excellent down the sides and in the middle. A great response to missing the penalty, chasing back and scoring.

"I have been hurt by the results, I don't know what has been said. I do not care what anyone says, they can have their opinion and that is none of my business to comment on, I am not hurting about what others are saying."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer BBC Sport: "This had been a good week for us. It started with a decent performance against Liverpool and now two wins away from home. It gives the players confidence and momentum.

"Scott McTominay knows that it is a mistake but still a very good performance. He is growing all the time, the kid and he is a top professional. He works hard very day and is a Manchester United player.

"The third was a very good goal and a class finish. It is great for Anthony Martial to score a goal like that. We could and should have had a few more goals."
